Reapplicants: what the max number of times you are applying

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just curious, did you apply allo only?

yep, this time I am applying to 2 DO schools as well.

3rd time was a charm for me.

Good luck.

this is my third time as well. i'm actually waiting to hear on my early decision from Touro NV before paying for my apps to the other schools...

i don't care if i have to leave the country, i'm going to med school next year.

hey ozzy... I'm reapplying also and really want to go to THIS year.. I did EDP to a school also.. have u interviewed yet and do u think you have a good shot?? I'm trying to think of my plan if I DON"T get in EDP... what other schools are you going to apply to?? oh, and if u don't mind what are your stats? Thanks.. lets home this time is the charm for me!!

I am so impressed that you are applying a third time. That really shows determination. This is my second time and I hate it so much! 😡

I really hope that you get in...and just keep in mind that quite a few people apply a third time. On AdCom person told me that during exit evaluations from med school, he found that the people who were often at the top of the class were second- and third-time applicants. Just goes to show you that AdCom people often can't see potential.

Good luck! :luck:

I applied 4 times total but had a gap between the first and second.

1992 applied allo only
1998 allo/osteo mix
1999 waitlisted osteopathic only
2000 accepted osteopathic only

Second year resident now

That's some dedication, man, good to hear you made it through.👍

keep it up...3rd time is the charm...👍

Partially true.

Adcoms often will reject an applicant to see if they mature a bit before the next application. Usually, it's those with downward-slide grades and "immature" first impressions at the interview that get this sort of treatment.

The upside is... it truly IS the older students who do well. Partially because of additional experience in one form or another, and partially because they tend to be much more determined than first-time applicants (true!). They know what it took to get here, and are doing everything they can to stay.

There are many students who just come straight into medical school from undergrad, but they truly have no idea what medicine's all about, and find out that they are not comfortable here. In fact, in the class before me, 5 people went to the dean after the first set of classes and opted to leave medical school to pursue another career... and 3 of them had A's !

If medicine is truly your calling, you will apply as many times as it takes to get in.

This sort of life demands nothing less.

The Dean at my medical school told me about a physician who applied 5 or 6 times before they finally just felt sorry for him and let him in. He ended up graduating number 1 in his class...he was just bad at standardized tests and could never get a decent score on the med school admission test at that time. He's also now a big shot in the state medical association & on the board of trustees of my old college.
