My friends and I were considering renting an apartment this summer since we're really involved with the community around our university and it would be more convenient for us as we'll be closer to campus for endeavors such as research laboratory, volunteering continuity, familiarity, etc.

The rate for each of us will be roughly $450/month. Would you say that's a reasonable amount? How much did you have to pay and what how did you manage to pay off your rent montly?

Edit:

Forgot to mention the amenities, lol. It's going to be 2 rooms (2 beds/desks each room), a living room, kitchen, and 2 bathrooms.
  • Individual contracts
  • Fully furnished
  • Private bedroom
  • Private bathroom
  • Full kitchens
  • Stay connected
    • Satellite television service
    • High-speed internet, available through a wired or wireless connection
    • In-room telephone line available for an extra charge
  • Window blinds
  • Steel front doors with electronic access card locks

It depends on the area. $450 would be relatively expensive where I live, but it would be a steal out in the San Francisco area, for example.

It also depends on the apartment and the safety of the area around it. I can't really give you much with that you've told me.

LOL @ asking anything real estate without mentioning location.

Don't forget to factor in the typical monthly bill is for water, gas, and electric. My electric bill was $45 last month. Gas and water (the same rate for all residents here) totaled $40. My total came to ~500 dollars.

What you will find is that the quality of the apartment is proportional to the price. You won't notice all the problems until you get moved in. If you're concerned about making rent, don't get an apartment. The only reason I did was because I was one of the few students that had to pay 4K per semester for housing/dining.

???
I go to CU Boulder, was that something I should hide? I didn't realize people would make such a big deal about it.

Location, location, location.

450/month for rent where I live (midwest) would be a normal price. However, there are apartments for 260-700 at our school. Its highly variable.

I don't get it, what's wrong with 'Bear Creek'? 😕 Why are people laughing?

OP: would you really be happy with living in a shared bedroom?

That's something I, personally, would think long and hard about.

I was laughing because everyone on here is so uptight about anonymity, and someone actually found the link to the OP's prospective apartment complex.

looks like a good deal. if you try searching the area on craigslist other shared rooms are hovering around 500-600
