I dont want this to turn into another school ranking thread all i want to see is what reasons you personally have for choosing your top choice. I am personally torn between the two schools i have been accepted to and just want to see what yall's reasoning was...

Thanks a million!

I'm torn too. right now especially with this economy, the cost of tuition/living expenses to attend a particular school is near the top of my list and how much loans will I need to take out and end up having to pay on a 10 year plan (I really do not want to do a 25 year plan). Next is the clinical aspect of the school (and chair availability in 3rd and 4th). Right now I got temple vs buffalo vs nova vs case. Buffalo so far is what I've been leaning toward.

Unfortunately, cost is a huge consideration. Other than that, my main focus is clinical experience I'll have when I get out and friendliness of faculty/students.

Pacific!!! Love the teamwork/family environment of the shool!! Love the facility!!!and come on...it's San Francisco!!

a combination of cost and atmosphere.. as well as amount of time spent in clinic, technology, equipment

Cost period. Imagine the extra thousands u have to spit out to send back to schools years after u graduate? 2000 a month is a lot.. i imagine all the stuff i could buy and pay for.. this materialistic aspect is enough to make me choose .. on top of that.. Maryland does have an awesome facilities.. and students are genuinely happy.. it's 30 mins from my parent's house (i can bring home laundry on the weekend hehe it's like college all over again). And besides my long term goal isn't to specialize.. i just want to become a general dentist.. and do what i enjoy 🙂. I just can't find any reasons to justify NOT choosing my state school.

clinical preparation offered, modern technology and facilities, location, non-competitive environment, and boards after 1st year are appealing for me.
Cost....... I just have to laugh because us Wisconsin people get screwed cost wise since Marquette doesn't even offer much of a instate discount.

Hey I recognized you Peerless218! So what about UCSF now?

University of Michigan
-instate tuition 60k ( this includes tuition, living, and all that other jazz)
-new outreach program increases clinical exposure 100 fold (Mentioned at interview: it isn't uncommon for students to graduate with over 180 extractions)
-Dental school is located on the undergrad campus, so plenty of opportunities to mingle with other students than just dental students.
-Insane research funding
- Everyone their seems to be enjoying themselves ( as much as you can during dental school.)
- Seasonal change ( Yeah its cold but only 3 months out of the year)
-Ann Arbor is the only city is Michigan not in a recession.
-In my opinion Michigan is the best public University in the nation ( Ha-ha… this is going to get those Berkeley kids all fired up!)
- And lastly, Michigan's football team is doing poorly this year and I still have some tapes of myself playing football in grade school so I might have a chance to play strong safety.

This list is purely based on facts.

I'm going to have to decline a school...and on the paperwork beside the box to check "decline offer" it wants to know where I picked instead and why...

I'm kinda uncomfortable with that :/

Don't answer it. Its none of their business and you aren't going to be going to their school so it won't benefit you either.

I second that, it's really none of their business at all...it'd be different if u felt comfortable filling it out, but you don't, so don't 🙂

One of my schools asks the why I am declining.
I wouldn't say where you picked instead, but I am planning on just giving them a basic: Thanks, I put a lot though into it and I believe that another school will be a better fit for me.... etc

UCSF did not accept me for the 1st round. I dont know, I am in kind of a weird situation. I am neither rejected nor placed on the waitlist. I am not sure what that means. Until I have that luxury of picking between SF and UOP, I am DEF going to be a Pacific Tiger. No sense going to Kentucky for sure!! TOO COLD

UNC is my top choice. Why?
-It's organized - everything related to clinic is digital: xrays, appointment/chair scheduling
-It's beautiful - the clinics are spacious and new-looking
- Opportunities - they have many specialties and some of the top in their field on the faculty
- Location - a small college town, less distractions but similar to home. Also the weather is very mild.
-Cost - it's possible to be considered an NC resident after the first year and then get in-state tuition. Also the cost of living is very low in CH.

Also my fiance was already accepted to Duke law.

I think they did this to a lot of people.... although not everyone updated their predents, it may be a huge portion of the people who interviewed.

At this point all 3 schools I am accepted to are just about same price so this consideration is out...
clinically each strong in its own way and each has few special perks that makes it attractive...
so right now it is more like midwest vs east coast vs. near west coast

East coast FTW. I'm from Jersey though 😀. Truthfully, if it's really all a wash for you like that, go with the place that you felt most comfortable and welcome, and where people didn't look like they hated what they were doing.

You forgot to mention that megan fox just got accepted, and she said she wouldn't go unless you went, too.

I do not want to sound too cocky...but I'm out of her league.

Per usual, this is also based on facts.
