I just got the secondary yesterday, after being verified a few days ago. If I were to be offered an automatic interview invite, I would have gotten that instead of the secondary, right? Hrm, I guess my 37Q and 3.69 (not stellar, but it's engin) weren't up to snuff for OOS applicants. Does anyone have any idea of what the cut-offs are for the auto invites?

I saw on Mich's site that 80 of 800 interviews were already granted by late June. Sigh, I just need to remind myself that only 10% of interview slots are gone right now, and that 90% are still left....(unless of course they're just slow in updating their site and now the % left is probably a lot lower).
edit: just checked, 154 of 800 interview slots are now gone. sigh.

What school do you go to? Your MCAT is fine, but your GPA is a little low for the automatic invite (although I don't know exactly what the cutoff is). Also, your school matters.

I'm OOS at Mich, but I'm also an alumnus (thus, was hoping for a little love from them). I'd think they recognize the challenging nature of Mich engineering, but alas, I realize my GPA is less-than-stellar by pre-med standards (though it may be sufficient by engin standards). Sigh, I guess I shall just wait, and hope.

And those are good reasons to hope they'll show you some love. I think it's a little much to expect them to give you an auto-invite (which is so largely numbers-based). Heck, they say only about 15% of their interviewees received auto-invites, so there's plenty of time for you to get one and me not to. 😉

I received an e-mail from UMich telling me my status had been updated. When I logged in, it was just the "Ready for Preliminary Review" junk that had already been up there for four days.

I have 38/3.6 (AMCAS) and did my undergrad at Colgate University. I got an auto-invite from Michigan as soon as my LOR's were posted. Frankly, I can't tell what the cutoff is, and if the cutoff is different for different schools.

I have a 3.79/38 from a Top 5 private school, didn't get one. My letters aren't in yet, so maybe that has something to do with it (or maybe it's the hundredth of a gpa point). Oh well, I guess.

It's not an auto-invite if they waited for your LORs. Then it's just a regular invite.

In one of their online chats with the admissions directors, they mentioned the usual range/cutoff for an automatic invite is a 3.8 and 38 (all numbers based).

When you get an auto-invite, it comes along with the secondary, I believe. So, they'll ask you to complete the secondary and schedule your interview at the same time. One of my friends got one last year, and that's what they had to do.

auto-invite at umich is a 3.8/38 - yeah, great, you have an automatic interview if you have those, but
a) the few people who actually have those stats would have gotten interviewed anyway, dontcha think?
b) not everyone who automatically interviews gets a slot

so don't fret, there are still plenty of chances; UMich values diversity

I believe they also value certain schools over others and will only give out auto interviews to students fro a select grouping of schools.

In-state: 3.75/36
OOS: 3.8/38

Keep in mind though that there must be quite a few people who apply with those stats, so it's not like they intend to fill their entire class with auto-invite people. They are only going after those most likely to suffer from interview burn-out AND as an added bonus UMich will be the first school they visit, so there's no direct comparison for students.

I have a 3.87 GPA and 38 MCAT..... but, no love from UMich, and I've been invited to complete a secondary app. Must not like my school? It is a good, if small and relatively unknown, private school in MN.

I have a 3.91 and a 38 and didn't get an auto invite from UMich either.

My breakdown was 12PS/15VR/11BS, perhaps they wanted higher science scores...?

Polecats, what were your section breakdowns?

If they sent the invite right after the LORs were posted then there's no way that they could have already reviewed the application, so it is still an "auto-invite". Presumably they just wait until the application - including LORs - is complete before issuing auto-invites. If anybody this year has received an invite without having LORs complete then I'm totally wrong, but I've yet to come across anybody like that on SDN or otherwise. It seems that I (and others on here) have stats that exceed the cutoffs and didn't receive an invite before the secondary, so either the cutoffs are wrong and there is no true "auto-invite", or they just wait until an app is complete before issuing one.

I have a 3.78/36 (12/12/12) OOS and got the auto-invite this year. I'm not sure what else they would use to screen than the numbers. I haven't turned in my secondary or LOR yet.

I also got the auto-invite last year and ended up waitlisted, so its definitely not everything.

Completely wrong, sorry to be blunt, if you get auto-invited then you get to schedule the interview at the same time you get to fill out the secondary. My interview is scheduled for septemeber and I haven't completed the secondary or sent in LOR's yet.
my stats: 3.78, bcpm 3.88, 41mcat

you prolly didn't get the invite b/c you're mstp

i think the auto invite might also factor in location/residence. i have 3.86 and 36 from Rice but no invite.

That's weird, it seems like you should have an auto-invite, as you make the stats cut-off. But I heard there are some institutions that aren't on their "auto invite" list. That might be the problem.

you're right--I didn't know that people had gotten interviews without even submitting the secondary. Clearly the distribution of "auto-invites" are not as "automatic" as we think if undergrad, state of residence, and MSTP all come into play.

12 PS/13 VR/13 BS, with a 3.98 BCPM GPA and a 3.87 overall GPA

Maybe my school is blacklisted? Haha.

i take that back i got an invite today without secondary/lor

did u get an auto-invite some days after u had already received the link to the secondary? or do the auto-invite and secondary appl link come at the same time?
