I am a foreigner and doing prepharmacy after completing my B.S in Computer Engineering.

I served in the army for two years in my country, and am thinking about getting a recommendation letter from the officer that I worked for.

He knows me very well, and knows how I respond to stress, adapt to new envrionment, and my strengths and weaknesses. Some people suggested that the school might question its validity b/c it's from overseas.

Do you think I should look for someone else for a recommendation letter?

As I posted below, I served in the army for two years. And I worked for this officer in Operations office, and he knows me very well.

I also did some volunteer work at a local hospital in my home country. The person in charge of me doesn't know me that well. But recommendation letter from a healthcare industry sounds more appropriate...

Who should I with? Any suggestions?

You could use that as one & only to highlight someone who is familiar with your ability to follow directions, follow through on tasks, be able to make independent & responsible decisions, work well with others, etc...

However, you definitely need someone from the US if you're applying to US schools. You didn't mention what country you want to study in. If its Canada or elsewhere, then I think a letter from someone & preferably someone in pharmacy in that country is important.

Why? Because that shows that you've pursued not just the profession itself, but also how the profession differs from other assumptions you might have from your own country. It also illustrates that you meet the expectations for work, responsibility, leisure, medical systems, etc...that the country in which you want to study have.

That is a really, really convoluted answer I know, but I don't know the countries your're speaking of. Sorry😳

Thanks for your input.
I am from South Korea actually.

I wasn't really trooper doing drills and running up the mountains all the time as you would imagine any foot solider to do. ^^

During my two year service, I spend the first 6~8 months organizing the small library. They had just built a new barrack, and they wanted to start a small library with a couple of thousand books. I had just been stationed at the base, and they commissioned me to organize the library. It took a lot of time trying catagorzing books and modifying the software for check-out. (I have a B.S. degree in computer engineering)

After that, my real military life began. I worked in Intelligence and Operations Office where I handled classified documents (nothing too heavy in nature), and digitalized documents. I and the officer spent numerous sleep-deprived nights preparin for security inspections, different kinds of evaluations etc. I also developed a excel-based program which allowed us to manage classified documents with efficiency.

So it was pretty much like working at a firm. He has seen my probleming solving skills, how detail-oriented I am, and so...Although he wasn't signing my paychecks, it was pretty much like employer-employee relationship.

That's why I want to get a recommendation letter from him since he has the most accurate recent assessment of my nature, skills, and quailites

Other recommendations will be from professors in U.S. I went to college in U.S. And I am taking org chem and some bio classes to complete the prereqs.
