Sorry if this was already asked. I have a question about the doctor recommendation. Do schools want the recommendation to comment specifically on clinical experience? The reason I asked is because I feel like it's too late in the game to shadow a doctor and obtain another recommendation. All of my recommendations right now are actually written by doctors who were my professors and so commented on my academic abilities rather than clinical.

when you say "doctors" that were professors, do you mean DO/MD's or PHD's? i dont think your reccommendations need to be from a doctor, any professor is fine, but some schools require a DO letter, while others will substitute an MD letter.

if you had a professor who happened to be an MD/DO, it seems the only way they would comment on anything clinical, would be if you did indeed shadow them.

sorry if this sounds insanely confusing. but its not too late to try to talk to a DO to shadow. there was a recent post about finding a DO "mentor" on www.osteopathic.org. do a search, you'll find it. good luck!!!

The purpose of the MD/DO letter is to demonstrate your involvement in the medical setting. Many schools require an MD if not a DO letter. In some cases, a health care professional is acceptable. It is best that your letter reflect on not only what you have done, but as you as a person and your potentional in the medical setting. Generic letters are a dime a dozen, letters from MD/DOs that know you are invaluable. 🙂

I'm the one provided the link to the website to look for mentors. Look for that thread. Best of luck.
