How old recommendation letter is required ? I am planning to apply for 2007 year admissions and have letters from my principal dated nov 2004.

I don't know if these reco letters would work, should I arrange the recent ones. Could anybody tell me how recent reco letter is required, i tried searching on school web site but could not find it.

Thanks for your help ....

Hey drarch

How are you doing? Haven't heard from you for a while. 😀

As far as I know, the dental schools that require the letters of recommendation to be less than 1 year old at the time of application are:

1. University of the Pacific
2. University of Michigan
3. University of Colorado
4. Temple University

So if you plan to apply to any of the above universities, you definitely need to request for more recent ones.
Hope that helps.

Hey stelon
No worries. I'm glad you find it useful. Try to get the letters as recent as possible since they have an "expiry date" for some of the schools 😀

Well, if the letter itself doesn't have a date on it, then I don't think it's valid at least for the schools mentioned in my previous post.

Hi Cheer up,

I am good. How are you?
Thanx for the information. what about boston,Upen & new york. would they also require the recent one?becoz it is very difficult for me to arrange the recent ones.

Is Dean or principal the same thing? becoz i have one reco letter from my principal & one from faculty.

thnax cheer up , if i have to get a fresh reco letter then can you advice me which letter have the maximum weightage letter from faculty staff or from dentist with whome i have worked . beside a dean whose letter has to be there.

Hey drarch
I'm good as well. As far as I know the other schools still require letters of recommendation but they don't specify that the letters have to be recent. So I think you're safe with the ones you've already got for these schools.

Yeah, I know it's very diffificult to get recent ones. It took me about 3-4 months after I requested them to finally receive them from my school. I hope that I'll never have to ask them again. I'm not sure if the Dean is the same as the Principal, but I think so as long the Principal is the head of the dental school. I think you should call up the schools and ask to be sure.

Hey kitty
I'm not sure, as it varies from school to school as to whose letters you should submit. So you should check the schools' websites to get that info. But from what I know, it seems that most schools prefer a letter from a member of the faculty besides the one from the Dean. If you can, try to get both (ie. from a faculty member and the dentist with whom you've worked) and you can always decide which one to send later. Hope that helps.

it is alwayz better to submit the most recent reco letters!but if u dont have it ...then submit the old onez...!i guess they r generally accepted!
dean and the princi ..hold amost the same chair...differs from school to school!if u have a letter each from both the dean and the faculty ...nothing like it!submit both! 😉 👍
