Hi all,

I've been out of college and working for about 2 years, and decided that I want to go into medicine. I know most schools require that you submit letters of recommendation from your college professors. Do you have any tips for approaching my old professors now that I've been removed from college for so long? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

I just emailed them and asked them with a very brief description of what I was trying to do now. I hadn't seen one of my letter writers in 4 years or so and this worked fine for me even after that period of time.

Email your inquiry with attached photo, CV, draft of your PS, and unofficial transcript to trigger their memory and so they can get a good sense of who you are. If you are close enough, set up an appointment for a face-to-face meeting.

Also, consider petitioning your target schools to permit letter substitutions, like from an employer or volunteer coordinator.
