Hello,

I am a 4th year pharmacy student. For recommendation letters for residency program, do all sites accept the ASHP recommendation form as an acceptable recommendation letter?

It is very confusing because some residency sites specifically say that use the ASHP recommendation form and some sites dont. So, I was just wondering and any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

If the program website/application does not specifically say what it wants for LORs it would seem to me the best thing to do would be to contact the program directly. Seriously, filling out the application correctly is very important, so wouldn't you want to go to the source for the answer?

I agree. Residencies typically do a good job of posting on their website or within their app materials on what they are looking for with the LORs. A lot of information is given out during Midyear, so you might want to check out their booth at the Residency Showcase.

What I did in prep for a residency was ask for LORs November-early Dec prior to Midyear, then provide more information on the individual requirements of each program (ASHP form + personalized letter or just ASHP form) to my recommenders after Midyear when I had the list whittled down. Asking early allows your recommenders to get started on a personalized letter, then all that is left is altering the letter for individual nuances of programs. If you have > 5 programs, you might want to consider drafting an Excel spreadsheet with the deadlines, addresses, contact informtion, and requirements for each program. Preceptors seem to really appreciate this.

Good luck!

Thank you so much. I think I will email the residency program directors and ask them.
