I'm only been in medical school for a few months but I need two recommendation letters for a research program. I know one professor who can write a letter, but I'm not sure what to do about the other one. Would it be appropriate to ask a college professor I had for the other letter? I wrote an excellent library research paper for him and know I'd get an outstanding recommendation, while I'm not sure about a medical school professor who doesn't know me too well. What is everyone's input on this? I greatly appreciate any responses!

Ask a dean. Really, the sooner you get to know them the better. And they're ALL about helping med students get boastworthy things. Good luck. 🙂

asking the college professor should be completely acceptable. and i agree, ask your dean as well.

Do you have PBL or any other small group activities at your school where you interact with a preceptor on a regular basis? That's what I did last year, most docs are really happy to help, even if they only worked with you briefly. To reiterate what another poster said, most people are happy to help you get a great summer gig-- just be specific with what you need the letter to accomplish. Although, if it's a research thing, and you did research with an undergrad professor, that would be best.
