  1. Pre-Health (Field Undecided)
Hello,

I was wondering about recommendation letters. I'm a transfer student and have been attending my school for 1 semester now and feel a bit awkward asking professors for recs when they've only known me for for a short amount of time. They know me, and I did get A's in those courses, so would it be okay to ask? I wouldn't have a problem getting letters from my previous school, but do they still count toward something even though I'm no longer attending?

Some Pod schools on their websites mention that they want a "science faculty" rec. letter. Would physics prof., math prof. , or the Dean for Math/Science Dept. count under that category?

One more thing! I mentioned that I've been going to this school for 1 semester now, and we have a Health Advisory Committee that gives mock interviews and combines rec. letters and makes one big rec. letter. For me to join, its kind of last minute and theres a lot of paper work I have to submit and the interview is just around the corner. So my question is, would it really be worth going through that trouble to get a pre-health advisory committee letter and to also go through the mock 1-hour interview? Or should I just send individual rec. letters & practice for the interview on my own? I was also wondering if Pod schools look down on students or question them, if they know their school has a Pre-Health Advisory Committee that provides those services, and wonders why the applicant didn't go through it?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, I look forward to your feedback!

It shouldn't matter which institution the letters of rec came from. I took classes at four separate undergrad institutions and I got letters of rec from professors at 3 of them. You should probably get letters of rec from professors that know you the best.

The mock interview should be pretty helpful and I don't see how the Pod schools would down upon them. I interviewed at Temple and Scholl and the stress level of the interviews is pretty low. During the interview at Scholl I was asked to defend a bad grade in a class but other than pretty light and easy going.

I can't see going through the pre-health process hurting you, although I do think it is kind of unnecessary for pod schools.

Good Luck

I think the health Advisory committee would be your best option. However it all depends on how soon you can get those letters, if you can get the letters from your old school sooner. Then go for it,

You want to have your file complete as soon as possible, that gives you a better chance to get in your "number 1" school

Remember that some professors are so busy

Thanks for the replies. JackedUp - I wasn't saying that it would hurt me to go through the committee, but if Pod schools would look down on students whose schools provide those services. But I guess they don't really matter all that much, because as you and others have mentioned that pod school interviews are pretty low stress.

Hyperpodia, the committee is making me jump through hoops to get a mock interview because I'm starting late. So would it really be worth it? Guess not...

So I've looked it up on the school's websites and most mention a minimum of 3 letters. Two from science faculty and one from pod, has anyone sent more than that?
