The orthopedic guys have at our place have never shown much interest in regional. I have been to the 1/2 day course at the ASA, another didactic course that was similar: lectures followed by putting U/S on live models. Due to the surgeons lack of interest and support, never took the time to implement with rare exceptions.

Also been all over the NYSORA website.

Well the orthopods have finally showed interest in us doing blocks.

I have heard that there are preceptorships out there where attendings can go to a training program and observe the "block resident" do a large number of these procedures each day and pick an academic attending Jedi brain and watch the tips and tricks for making it work, Personal preferences for needles, kits, U/S machines, cocktails, etc. That is the way that I personally best process information.

Looking for recommendations. Any other recommended resources appreciated.

I've been to quite a few. I liked the ones in Canada. Vince Chan runs a good one at Western Ontario, and the one Ganapathy runs is good too. If you get a chance to hit the Walter Reed cadaver course, it is quite sweet. I hear a really good one is in Innsbruck, but I've not made it yet. Spend a good bit of time on the blue phantoms then you'll be able to put the needle where you want to after you learn some landmark tricks.

Chan is a BAD ARSE. He's good.

This website is great for Ultrasound blocks
http://www.usra.ca

NYSORA is great for NS techniques

Netter is great for relearning the anatomy

Join ASRA to get the RAPM journal

Talk to ultrasound vendors (sonosite, etc) and ambulatory infusion pump vendors (on-q); they often can send you to learn blocks (using their equipment), maybe for free if you buy their stuff

UCSD fall course - Cadaver dissection, good didatics, plenty of time on live models.

Thanks for the replies. I will be investigating all of the above.

Anybody have a favorite text or DVD set on ultrasound?

youtube. If you pay for anything, I think you are wasting your money.

Sonosite has some pretty good videos of many blocks free on it's website.

Also, there are many other resources on the web.

Agreed. Once you have a basic grasp of ultrasound, ie how to maneuver the needle, etc., you can learn most blocks from youtube.
