Hi guys. Will my app be viewed negatively if the only science classes taken are the required ones and I have none of the 'recommended courses' such as biochemistry?

I don't think biochem is an actual requirement for all the schools until the app cycle that begins in 2016.

Some do recommend them and some require a certain amount of hours tho

Thanks a lot. Biochem being a requirement next year is news to me. Any link you might have that touches on this?

There is becoming a perception by both adcoms and applicants that since the MCAT has Biochem as a core competency, that most students should have a Biochem course. So you are likely to get into the "defacto" competitive requirement where a large portion of applicants will have it. Thus, while not a formal requirement, it may have a minor impact just against the pool of those who do.

Having said all that, if you have a strong application with just the required courses, then go with it.
Great thank you.
