Hi,

so I just submitted my application and now I am getting all paranoid about not getting accepted! I want to add some safety schools to improve my chances.

Do you guys have a list of recommended DO schools that are reputable and one that you would call great safety schools if you don't get into your top choices? I'm thinking of applying to schools like MUCOM.

Thank you! Appreciated!

Which schools did you apply to?

Any school that has graduated a class or two should be fine, I guess.

MUCOM may be the best new school.

I'd personally stay away from WCU based on the information I've read on SDN and their match results.

It might help if you posted a list of what you're already planning on applying to, and what your stats are. A safety for someone with a 3.9/30 is very different than a 3.5/26.

Right Right, I posted my stats before but I shall post them again. Sorry!

-Massachusetts Resident
-Graduated 2012 at very good private university
-2 years research technician at hospital (current position)
-2 years undergraduate research experience
-Volunteer tutor at children's hospital (currently)
-LOR from DO and MD
-Some clinical experience in undergraduate
-cGPA:3.5 and sGPA: 3.42
-MCAT 10/6/9 and then 11/7/11

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM)
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM)

Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM)
Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine–California (TUCOM-CA)
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM)
Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University (CCOM/MWU)
Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM)
Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (Western U/COMP)

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCUMB-COM)
A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM)
Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYIT-COM)
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSU-COM)

And safety might be a very loose term, I know, sorry about that.

Johns Hopkins, Harvard med. They're like an orphanage, they take everyone in.

Your list is large and I would be surprised if you didn't get at least 3 interviews. At that point it's up to you.

Beyond the fact that there are no safeties and people with your stats regularly get rejected from places like MUCOM, it would be safe to say that MUCOM is less competitive than most places on your current list.

If I were you, I'd add MUCOM, maybe CUSOM, and I don't know maybe WVSOM. Not all are really safeties like I said, but it should give you a nice less top-heavy range of schools.

Thank you for the recommendations. I am very aware that safety school can seem to be an offensive term to some but it gets the point across. I'll take your advice into consideration.

Your stats look fine for the schools you have listed. My best advice is that you do not apply to a school you aren't realistically willing to go to. It's a waste of time and money.
