Do people usually videotape lectures or simply voice-record them? What equipment/software is needed to voice-record a lecture, and where can I get it?

I recommend not recording lectures and just getting good at taking notes. What would you prefer when you study for a test? All the main points that will be tested on or 10 hours recording.

Yeah, recording lectures really isn't terribly useful. My university has decided to start experimenting with all this technology - podcasts in one class; video recordings via camera that automatically track the professor, chalkboard, and powerpoint presentation in another - and while the idea is cool, in practice, it's almost entirely useless if you actually go to the lecture. Sitting through 60 minutes of lecture that you already saw once is a horrendous waste of your time. It's far more efficient to just learn to take good notes, then re-read or re-copy them after the class.

If you learn better through audio go for it. I knew a girl who drove an hour to school everyday and would listen to lectures - it helped her. If you don't think you'll listen to them don't bother. Plus TECHNICALLY you have to ask permission because it involves copyright of the professors lecture.

But personally I would recommend just learning how to take notes really well since it will be harder to record and listen to notes in med school - might as well get used to it now.

Recording Lecture is a passive process... Taking notes is an active process..hence the idea that you retain more because you have to pay attention to get the notes... If you record the notes...ehh you probably aren't paying attention to the lecture 100%...Don't know about you...but if I didn't listen to the lecture the first go around..More than likely I won't the second time... Plus if you record the lecture 9/10 times..you'll probably never play it back...
just my $.01 (not quite worth the full 2 cents)
