The solubility of a compound is 59g per 100mL in boiling methanol and 30g per 100mL in cold methanol, whereas solubility in water is 7.2g per 100mL at 95degrees celcius and 0.22g per 100mL at 2degrees celcius. Which solvent would be better for recrystallization of the compund and why?

Think about the ratios of solubility at boiling and at cold. 59/30 ~ 2 vs. 7.2/.22 ~ 33. Although you can't get as much into the water, it ALL comes out when you chill it.
