Regarding LORs

My college has a pre-health committee, which basically writes an LOR for a med school applicant.

However, he has given me wrong information in the past regarding, does not want to support my efforts, keeps trying to persuade me away from a career in medicine, looks down on me, and much more. He plays favorites...my other classmates don't get the same treatment as I do, unfortunately...And to top it all, my adviser is on the committee.

I can see his point of view - my grades have not been spectacular, but I've made progress, including an upward GPA trend.

I've visited some med schools and have heard that they highly prefer an LOR from a pre-health committee. My question is, should I still approach the pre-health committee when I need to ask for LORs? Or should I ask other references, such as professors and people who I've worked/volunteered under? Anyone have some experience with a similar situation?

1) Yes
2) You will probably still need to submit individual LORs to the committee - it's usually part of the process. They make a composite letter summarizing/quoting the individual letters and send them as part of their package

Nearly every school requires an explanation for why you didn't provide a committee letter if your institution provides them. "Because my advisor is a bonehead" probably won't go over very well.
