Well Guys,

Just got the letter from NYU, stating that I was rejected, don't know what to do right now. I have been waitlisted at BU, and it looks like I have to reapply again for the fourth straight year. I joined a Masters program and will be finished this summer, if you guys could help me out with any input, I would really appreciate it. My stats are the following, DAT- 19/20/15, undergrad gpa- 2.7, grad gpa- 3.2(when finished it will be 3.4 with research honor credits). This year I have doing research and will get a paper published. Any thoughts, I am planning on retaking the DAT's, but don't know what to do with my gpa since I thought the masters would help me, unfortunately it didn't.

For you it sounds like acing the DAT is all you can do; That's all I'd be focused on if I were you. You've showed an upward trend in grades and noone can question your motivation for dentistry if you've been through 4 application cycles.

Retake the DAT and shoot for like 22/22/18. I know the PAT is killer (I struggle mightily with it as well) but I'm sure with enough effort you can get your scores there and get accepted.

Best of luck!

I was planning on retaking the DAT's since my scores will be old for this cycle and I am shooting for a 22. As for next year, I was looking at NYUCD's website which has a one year certificate program in which you take classes as a full time student so I was thinking about doing that, but I don't know if that would help. Any other input would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I have to give u props man, 4 straight years of applying? Jeez i would of given up by now! Cheerios! Anyways, finish that masters up and kill the DAT, and you should definately get in!

Hey Rupesh,

Sorry to hear about that. That 15 definitely stands out as a major weak point. Get as much practice PAT as you can, because that's all you can really do for that section to improve. It seems like crushing the DAT is your best bet for next year.

ditto 👍

Take the DAT and kick it.

Also, BU has a masters in science program for those interested in dentistry...you take some of the basic science classes with the dental kids. It can also help you get into the program.

What's the program called?

-hm, PAT for sure needs to be improved
-practice interviewing well
-stress, on your aadsas and in the interview, what you have improved since the previous years
-get your applications in butt early
-and call them admissions office constantly to let them know how interested you are in getting in and becoming a dentist.

good luck. i admire your tenacity.

nyu told me they are looking for 3.3 overall..3.1 science...3.0-3.1 bcp and 19aa dat scores or better. of course im sure plenty of other factors come into play..such as shadowing, research, letters of recommendation and motivation

i was just curious but which school did u go to pursue a masters?

BU School of Medicine, they just recently started a program for predents at BU- Graduate Medical Sciences.

Perhaps you can try for some Post Bac programs? How about retaking some of the science classes for undergrad to raise your grade? I know they are averaged, but it would still be to your benefit to get an A to counterbalance a C or D.
