I was accepted into a 5 year accelerated dental program after high school, but chose not to go there since I wanted to attend my dream university. I liked where the dentistry school was located, but not so much where the undergrad was...typical freshman. Of course, after groveling for grades and slaving in lab, there were times I wished I had just gone  But at the end of the day, I'm still happy with my current school!

My question is, because I denied the school initially, is it likely my app went straight to the trash?

You're a good one...many people would have done otherwise....you seem happy with your decision and that's all that matters.

No, personally, I don't think you ruined your chances if they even remember when its time for you to apply. Nonetheless, I'm quite sure thats not the only school you're applying too and its clearly not your dream school, so I wouldn't sweat it.

I mean, a lot of it had to do with not knowing enough about the school, getting in early, and about the whole application process later on in general...I was pretty dumb for telling myself "oh it won't be too bad applying later," and completely took the acceptance for granted. I would definitely give that school a shot though, now that I am more appreciative. I just assumed it wouldn't be that hard for them to run names through the system to see if there were familiar ones...Thanks for your response!

My mom did not let me skip grades in school AND turned down an early acceptance to a college when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. Can’t remember. I have to say though, that I am definitely happy she did. I don’t think I would have been mature enough and I wouldn’t have experienced everything I have going through the rest of high school and years in college. Sometimes I think it’s just good to do things the “normal” way.

the dental school themselves see thousands of applicants each year. You'll be just
name. they won't remember you 3-4 years down the road. Unless you insulted them in your rejection or did something that will leave a mark.

i was in the same boat. i took the similar program but transferred cuz that was not the school i wanted to attend and i was unhappy. I am happy with my undergraduate school now. Everything is great.

I doubt the school will remember you. plus you may be more interested in different schools later.
