My mom just told me I got rejected from UPENN. She said the letter came on Saturday, but she knew I was going to NY for the weekend and didn't want to tell me. She also added, "you're not smart enough to go to an Ivy League." Ouch.

I guess UPENN was one of my reach schools. My stats are average. GPA average and DAT average. Not spectacular. I felt I would be lucky to be accepted there, but I didn't feel like I was crazy and totally out of it for applying there.

Yea, I was kind of wondering the same thing. I thought Temple wouldn't send rejections or acceptances before Dec. 1???...of course granting you got interviewed first. Thanks

Hey, sorry to get off topic a tad, but does anyone know about rejections after you've been interviewed? Can you still get rejected before December 1 if you've already been interviewed? Or, since they have met you do they wait until they get a lot of other interviews and see where you fit in the class?

So if you've already been interviewed, and you haven't been rejected is that a good sign? Though I imagine if acceptances don't come in the first week of December that might be an indication. Just wondering if anyone knew! thanks!!!

haha. ok. i was interviewed at Temple about a month ago and got rejected. This is what the letter stated: "I regret to inform you that your application to Temple U was not successful. The competition for admission to dental school continue to be intense, and we have many more applicants than we can accommodate. We appreciate your interest in TU and we wish you success in your future endeavors."

In other words, sorry buddy but we have far better applicants with much better scores who will choose our school so we won't be needing you. ('cause i thought the interview went well....) blah. They are expecting ~3500 applicants so... ...

My GPA/DAT scores were good enough to get an interview but I guess they thought I wasn't good enough for them. 😡

~so, there ya go. I'm sure there are others who have been rejected AFTER interviewing... just hope you ain't one of 'em. gluck peepz 🙂 ~

I've noticed that each dental school usually accepts more than 1/2 of the interviewees [i.e. some people decline acceptance]. A few receive acceptance letters around Dec 1st and majority after Jan 1st. If your GPA and DAT scores are superb you are usually a fit for any school. I think if your GPA and DAT scores are above a school's avg and you think you did a good job during your interview you're probably in. I think one SDNer was rejected immediately after his Arizona interview but he knew he didn't do a good job during his interview. Different schools have different policies but I suspect dental schools don't reject too many interviewees (esp. those who are above their avg DAT scores and GPAs).

I also got a rejection letter from temple after my interview. I had my interview about 2 month ago. The content of the letter was same as "saycheese"'s. Little depressed, but it's ok..=)

With Temple, I am under the impression that if you're rejected (interviewed or not interviewed) you'll be notified before december 1st.

Your stats are great! I don't know why Temple won't accept you, what losers 😡 My stats are worse than yours so I guess I have no hope of getting in(11/30 interview).

My impression is that Temple is looking to accept people who are sincerely interested in attending Temple University. It seems as though many (certainly not all) consider Temple a “safety” school. As such it would seem that Temple might decide to eliminate applicants who they believe that though qualified, or even over qualified, will not attend. Presumably this will allow them to fill there class in a more timely fashion. That said if you are in the enviable position of being “overqualified” for Temple but it is in fact your first choice (and you haven’t yet been rejected for being too good) perhaps a note to the admission committee explaining your deep and overwhelming desire to attend Temple would be in order. It probably would not hurt.

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. If anything, the application process has been very unpredictable. There are people with 'perfect' grades that have not been interviewed by schools everybody would expect to be all over them. there are people with average grades getting interviewed at top schools (schools they thought would be 'reach' schools). You're not rejected till they tell you OFFICIALLY, (neither are you accepted till they tell you OFFICIALLY). So until either of them happens, be positive. 🙂

Didn't even get a letter or anything from them. They updated AADSAS today. Says "application denied". I assume that means rejected!!

I assume I didn't even get an interview invite due to my lowish DAT scores.

I got the same rejection yesterday from Arizona. I didn't get an interview either. My DAT is 22/22/19, but GPA is 3.0, sci 2.9, so maybe that's the reason. Oh well, 1st rejection, so I guess that's not too bad. I thought it was interesting that they don't send a letter, or e-mail, just update the AADSAS. I guess $60 doesn't buy all that much.

Yeah, the cancer cure stuff may have played a part in my rejection. I am currently in the military, so I thought military service might qualify me for the service aspects they're looking for, in addition to the community service projects I've participated in. Apparently not. Life goes on, I have more schools on the list, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Nobody knows what AZ wants cept the adcoms at AZ. The quoted post wasn't addressed to me but I got an interview and havn't gotten a rejection letter yet (well over 30 days) so I assume its lookn pretty good for me. But who the hell knows.

Biochem major from UC Berkeley

Not bad but certainly not the greatest compared to some of these peeps on SDN.

I also had military experience which I think they liked and they also told me my age was a plus (Im 35).


Just to add a little rant. People are obsessed with stats. I talked to many adcoms and they all said the same thing. Once your stats get past a level the school thinks is competitve, they move one to other things in your ap. So a 25 DAT isn't neccessarily that much better then a 20. This came right from the lady at UoP, which is known for their heavy weight on the DAT.

She said that some people have great stats but have other missing elements that the school deems important.

So what am I saying??...nothing. I'm bored and an idiot. Disregard everything I just said.

It's not because of your scores. I have about the same and lower GPA and interviewed at asdoh. Don't get too worried. asdoh is very special and looking for something very different. (I don't know what but nobody knows)

It really bothers me when interviewers compliment you, because it gets your mind whirling!! Is that their "exit speech" to everyone? Is it an entirely false compliment? Is it a good sign?

My advisor said that some schools will even say "see you in September" and then still send out the rejection letters. Eesh! It's sooo much better to say nothing.

Anyone having this experience?? As if we don't over-analyze enough!!!

Hey, you might want to fix you OC score of 5, i'm sure its a typo! You should have seen how my eyes almost popped out when i saw OC 5!

I think GPA is very important for UPENN. I believe last year UPENN had the second highest GPA in the country. I think their avg GPA was 3.56. That means 124/2 = 62 students had a GPA > 3.56. Columbia pays more attention to DAT scores.
UPENN..............Columbia
GPA 3.56..........GPA 3.3
AA 20...............AA 21
PAT 17.............PAT 20
~124 students...~ 75 students

undergrad GPA has no bearing on how smart you are, I've met plenty of light-bulbs absent in their brains people that touted high ug GPAs...
