I saw one for 2005, but not 2006 - so I thought I'd start one since I got an rejection email today from Colorado.

They were so nice about it too...

The University of Colorado School of Dentistry is pleased to have received your application from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA).

As a state supported institution, strong preference for admission to dental school is given to Colorado residents and under contract to permanent residents of Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) participating states. These states include: Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Wyoming.

This year we will be accepting 50 students into the entering class of 2006. We anticipate that approximately 30-32 students will be selected from the applicant pool of legal residents of Colorado, 16-18 from students who are eligible to participate in their respective WICHE programs and 0-2 from students outside of Colorado and the WICHE programs.

In recognition of these constraints we will not consider you an active applicant and will not require from you further information or fees.

I guess they have a very good excuse for not taking me... and I was just throwing away my money - but I wanted the pretty scenary! They didn't even get my letter of recommendation yet too.

Hang in there! Rejection letters are a routine part of the process and they don't reflect at all on you as an applicant and person. Look at it this way: all that means is that some other lucky dental school will be able to snatch you up. 👍

not much of a reason. My scores are decent. I guess there are just to many excillent applicants out there.

The funny thing, in the rejection letter they said, "We wish you the best of luck in your future career decisions"...
Kind of like " Well, you're not good enough to be a dentist so good luck with whatever you decide to do..." Oh well, I'm sure it's for the best.

Interestingly enough, only MD wished me luck at another dental school.

My first rejection came from Loma linda, exactly same letter as I got this spring.
They must have some kind of standard to cut off applicants.
But I compared my stat with those listed in the letter, not too bad.
It seems those rejected me last year will definitly reject me again in the first round.

You guys need to check out the ADEA Annual Guide to Dental Schools published each year. Each school lists what state each admit is from. Clearly, Colorado, as well as many many other state schools did not take a single person from out of state, or out of region (like WICHE). So first things first, just see who would take you with or without a 4.0 GPA, 25 DAT.

Check out this page, and compare with the number spread in your letter.

In these "hi-tek" times, there's no excuse for not using every resource possible and available...

yeah! exactly.... the numbers for colorado indicate 18 out of state students were admitted. Nowhere does it specify that those 18 were regional students. IMO, schools like colorado, Georgia, texas etc.... shouldn't even be part of AADSAS, believe me, I am not the only one feeling screwed here. I know plenty of guys at my school who made similar mistakes....

But it is my fault, oh well.

For those of you who received rejection letters, did you get them before they even asked for a secondary? Or did you already send in the secondary?
I got secondaries from UOP and AZ, but im thinking about not filling out the UOP one because I dont want to just throw away money. Do school send secondaries to every single applicant just to make money?

UOP has a secondary??? I thought you just have to send an application fee of $75 and that's it

I think that's what he means by secondary, just the check. I sent mine a few weeks ago. A lot of schools just want your dough. I am actaully happy that that is all they ask for. I hate writing out secondaries, isn't that what we sent our ADSAS appl. for? Filling out Loma Lindas and a few of the others were as lengthy as the ADSAS appl.

Some secondaries are really easy and straightforward, like Creighton's, and some others have you write short paragraph answers, like UCLA and Nova, and some others require to write ANOTHER essay, like Loma Linda and Marquette. Tis the price we pay to get a shot.

Oh yeah, and UOP doesn't have a secondary. YOu should send in the check, otherwise you have ZERO chance of even getting an interview. You applied to try to get in, right?

LomaLinda rejected me a month ago. I think I chucked the letter. No biggy, 15 more to choose from... 🙂

Strange though, the letter said here are our stats and then it said your's do not meet our qualifications. Most of my scores meet or exceed there's. No biggy though, I just thought it was a bad reason for a denial.

They have to wait till Dec. 1 to send out acceptance letters, but not rejection letters....those they can send out any time and they usually come just after they cashed your check. 😀

Don't worry, some day you may be glad you didn't get in and frame this one (after all, Colorado did sell themselves to OEC...).
I'm sure you'll all get in somewhere. Looking back at the first three years of dental school, it's been worth the effort (and wait). Just keep after it.

And, ironically, I had a 4.0 and 25 DAT, and still got the boot

If you pass up applicants with the kinds of stats that Benfolds23 and cowsgomoo have, you must be smokin crack. Either that or benfolds23 and cowsgomoo have felony charges. Doesn't make much sense to me. I'm sensing some political influence on this.

Got rejected by arizona. my stats were 2.95 sci, 3.1 overall, 20/20/17 DAT.

Oh well, it's too hot and dry there anyway..... 👎

It's possible they rejected the high scoring applicants because they assume that 1) they won't choose their school because they have other, perhaps better, options or 2) they'll likely choose a school in closer proximity to their home.

Or in BenFold's case, they have better out of state applicants? Haha, nvmd they probably don't.

It has NOTHING to do with their stats. Colorado accepts only instate and WICHE students. They probably get more funding from the state of Colorado for each in state student than they would by charging an out of state student 30-40 grand per year. Come on guys, what is it always about...the Benjamins.

I received the same letter on Aug 30th. I did NOT get a secondary. Just the rejection letter. My app was sent out Aug 4th. My stats are same as yours. Don't know what your DAT was, but mine was 20 AA 20 PAT

I didn't talk about religions at all and they liked me. I guess it's random. (I thought that I had no chance at all). 🙂

so i got my first one from Uof Maryland today. sucks... they didn't even get my LORs and they rejected me flat out from my AADSAS info. at least they said the decision didn't mean i'm not prepared for dental school, just the applicant pools are very competitive this year. 🙁
