Do medical schools send out evaluations of applicants when they reject them? In other words, do med schools just send a "Sorry, but many qualified applicants applied..." stock letter, or do they provide some reasons why they reject an applicant?

Some schools (seems to be the state ones) are very willing to provide feedback on their decision. There are a couple Texas schools that actually do entire workshops for students that were rejected. Most, however, don't seem all that willing to give you information, and all you'll get is a form letter.

schools have limited resources available to students in their admissions offices, so they have to ensure that the majority of the benefits of that resource are preferentially spent on their paying customers, and not wasted on the 6000+ neurotic premeds that they are forced, for various reasons, to reject. I know for UNC, you can call them and speak to a dean or something, and he/she will walk you through what you could improve on your application. Good stuff!

Nope. Usually you have to inquire if you want to know why they rejected you. Even then, many won't give you an answer. Expect lots of stock letters.
