Hi, per AMCAS guidelines, I understand that (a) we are expected to remove ourselves from other waitlist once we commit to enroll somewhere and that (b) schools at which we are waitlisted will receive a notification when we commit to enroll elsewhere. A few questions regarding this:
  1. How generally enforced / followed is the expectation of removing oneself from waitlists once you commit elsewhere? ie, are there people who remain on waitlists even after committing elsewhere? and, If so, are there consequences?
  2. If an applicant does not officially remove themself from a school's waitlist, do schools "care" about the notification from AMCAS? ie, will they no longer consider the applicant, or will they offer acceptance to whoever they want, regardless of whether the applicants have technically committed elsewhere?
Any insight ASAP would be so appreciated!

1. It is expected that the applicant will remove themselves from waitlists when they have committed to another school.
2 Schools will care that an applicant's integrity is in question. Understandably, it does not make them a more desirable candidate.

If you want to stay on WLs, you can only mark PTE at your current acceptance and not CTE

This late in the application season though, your PTE school is going to have a deadline by which you MUST commit.
Don't risk losing everything for a maybe!

A school which receives notice that you have CTE'd somewhere else will remove you from the waitlist. That is as official as it gets, regardless of whether you send them a separate personalized email.

If you do not mark CTE by the deadline you risk losing your spot, period.
