Reminder: Interview Feedback Page! Read it, Contribute to it!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I just wanted to remind people about SDN's interview feedback page. Read about other people's interview experiences to prepare for your own interviews. Then, once you've had an interview yourself, contribute to the database by posting your own interview feedback!

That's all 🙂

Shemarty

Definitely one of the best ways to prepare for an interview. Thank God for SDN! 🙂🙂

just make shemarty a mod already!!

Seems as good a time as any to point out that there's no entry for TTUHSC El Paso which is opening next year.

I'll pass this on. Thanks.

Hey, I just pointed this out today and PMed someone who manages MDApplicants. They responded by saying TTUHSC El Paso is just a new campus, so it would still be considered under Lubbock, which is incorrect. I let them know it's an entirely new school and not just another campus, so hopefully they will correct the problem!

If anyone is aware of any new schools/campuses that haven't been added to the interview feedback, please feel free to post them here.

Unless I just completely missed them, I didn't see PCOM-GA or PNWU-COM on the DO interview feedback list.

the interview feedback page is great, but i think it'd be nice if it were better organized.. one suggestion might be to split it up by interview cycles/ application years.

awesome job with the interview feedback page, i've been using it to prep for all my interviews 😀

It's already in chronological order, so it's naturally split by cycle. The split is obviously during April-July of each year, when nobody interviews.

can we delete the empty feedbacks? or make the initial entry form a little more intuitive to fill out, or all on one page? i don't think some people get that you have to "update" each section to save your entry, then click on the next section.

I don't know if I'm totally missing it but is Weill Cornell on the interview feedback? I can't find it.

This trouble seems very tricky - what do they want to know?! Because it is a different question than "why medicine?" What do y'all think?

"Tell me about yourself" gives you the opportunity to "direct" the interview in the sense that you can given them tidbits of information about you that they may want to ask about. In your response to that questions make sure you include information about yourself that can lead them to ask questions about you that will reaffirm that you are 1) cognitively capable of completing medical school, 2) dedicated and at least have some understanding of medicine, and 3) prove to them that you are just an undeveloped doctor (i.e. you'll be "one of them"; have what it takes to handle pressures and to deal with patients).

This may be a dumb question, but how long do you think it is appropriate to pause before responding to an interviewer's question? I would imagine that for questions like "tell me about yourself", the answer is pretty immediate...but what about harder questions involving the healthcare system and ethical questions and such? Thanks 🙂

Yes, I think it is perfectly fine to say something like "Can I have a moment to think about that?" before you reply. I've talked to adcom reps and they have told me anecdotes about experiences they had with certain students during interviews, and I've heard that interviewees often pause to think about their responses. I think that is totally reasonable, better to have a well-thought up response than a bad response.

san juan bautista school of medicine in puerto rico doesn't have an entry either.

could someone change "geffin" to "geffen" on the md school list, please? Really bothers me for some reason every time i see it

Wow, this is great. Thank you SO much SDN!!😍

I'm finally done with all my interviews. I had 7 and turned 2 more down. I guess I'll just list how things went.

Missouri had a good interview process. The staff was friendly, but I think that some individual professors ask tough questions. One asked me to describe how epinephrine bonded to the CNS. Not what it did, but how it bonded. wtf. I interviewed there last year too. Result, wait list both times.

Arkansas - well I didn't like the closed application format. Some doctors and professors simply don't have much in the way of personality. I got 2 such professors. Other than that the administration were friendly and they actually had good senses of humor. Wait list

Creighton - Great interview. Friendly administrators and professors. Really seemed to recruit people to their school. Wait list

Iowa - Good interview, but the students seemed like they weren't having any fun. Wait list.

Des Moines - 2nd favorite interview. The staff and students really made it feel like they wanted you there. Loved the surgery lab and the facilities. I guess the president is a former govenor of Iowa or something. Accepted.

KCUMB - So so interview. They acted like they wanted you there, to the point where they actually fitted us for our white coats. It was personable, but i felt like our student tour guides were the only ones that we interacted with. Accepted.

Colorado - interviewed on the last day. Great interview, I was late b/c I got lost in Denver, and they went out of their way to make it seem like it was their fault. 2 good interviews, a long campus tour. Probably the best interview I had. Accepted.

All in all I don't think the interview made or broke me. I think Colorado was going to accepted me as long as I could make complete sentences. The DO schools really liked my experience with DO's. I think that I got better at the process, and for Colorado I didn't really care anymore. I liked the place, but I wanted to go skiing. Also when I found out how many out of state students they accept I figured I had a snowball chance in hell. Here's to the snowball.

Ponce School of Medicine is not in the allopathic database. It is an American LCME certified medical school. It is located in Puerto Rico but should NOT be confused with Caribbean Schools.

If anyone is aware of any new schools/campuses that haven't been added to the interview feedback, please feel free to post them here.
