I suggest adding these schools:
Quinnipiac
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Medical College Wisconsin
TCU-UNT
Rutgers accepts few non residents with no connection to the state.

When did you apply last year? When were you verified and when were the secondaries in by?

Having read some threads on SDN by AdComs I am not sure if the delay was a huge reason for "rejections." As long as they were done within deadlines it should've been good but I may be wrong.

When did you apply this year?

Yeah most adcoms here say that having apps in by Labor Day is early-on time and by the end of september is on time-slightly late, so I doubt that most of your problem was your time frame. How many schools did you apply to last year? And was your list top heavy?

EDIT: additionally, they also say that they don't have the time to track how long you took to submit the secondaries, so sitting on them for a month+ likely had no effect.

Yeah, I'm grasping at straws here because I'm truly confused by how my cycle went. If you have any insight I'd love to hear what you think. I just thought with average stats, I was shooting myself in the foot by sitting on secondaries late and applying to some schools after labor day.
This year I applied to almost all schools from mid july into the first week of August. I submitted all within a week of receiving them and had my essays looked over by way more people. I panic added like 5 schools last night that I'm planning to turn around by the end of this week.

I applied to 19 MD schools with a 3.6/513 last year and only received one interview from my state school (WL/R). Similar ECs with lots of research (4000+ hrs, 2 pubs). All secondaries were completed by Labor Day. I think a mixture of bad luck, low yield schools, and median stats resulted in our unsuccessful cycles. For this cycle, I rewrote my PS and pivoted my app more towards service; low+mid tier schools do not care about research. I applied to 8 MD schools and 8 DO schools this year. Hopefully this cycle yields us greater success. 😛

I feel you 100%. Good luck to you too this year! 🙂
