Hello,

I recently started floor training as a scribe. I feel stupid because I can't spell and I am pretty slow. I really don't want to get terminated for being this incompetent.

From what I've been told I've been able to get the necessary information most times, but I'm just slow putting it together. I make a bulleted list which slows me down I guess?

The goal is to have HPI and ROS done before moving onto the next patient. Any tips to improve my speed, confidence, and overall become a better scribe? I've already completed 4/5 floor training shifts and this is really bothering me that I am not really improving fast enough from day to day.

Are the practice scenarios on scribeamerica training effective? It's a very fast past ED. I do not want to be fired for being too slow. I get it comes with experience, but I definitely need to improve before my next shift because the trainer didn't seem too happy with my performance although they didn't say anything negative besides my speed.

Any advice would be much appreciated!
It all comes with experience. I used to work at scribeamerica before leaving and being hired directly by the site I work at, and I can tell you that (in my opinion) all their training materials are garbage. Your first couple of weeks are going to be rough until you get more acclimated to the EMR, vocab, and general workflow in the ED, but everything should eventually click together.

Also it helps a ton to have already taken anatomy + physiology I feel before getting into scribing, so you're not constantly asking the docs to repeat themselves when they're dictating an exam or something. I know exactly how you feel as I was in your shoes a while ago, you just need to focus up and stop worrying about it for the time being; you're new and will be green for a bit, just like every one else, including your trainer.

Good luck!

edit: Also doesn't your computer have spellcheck?? This is what saved me until I learned vocab lol
