Hey guys,

With the whole interview season starting up I figured I'd share a nice little tip. If you or your parents are members of USAA (insurance for armed service), then you can login and rent from avis, budget, or hertz without the 25 dollar a day fee if you are under the age of 25. There is also a bunch of other benefits. I know it is kind of a limited amount of people, but I thought I'd put that out there since it just saved me about 200 dollars.

Any other tips are welcome to get posted in here too. Its expensive enough as it is.

Omg, I'm a USAA member and I didn't know that! Thanks for the tip, that's awesome! Gotta love USAA, they rock.😍

I do know that you can bid on cars on priceline, and sometimes they'll include the under-25 fee in your bid. But if you go too low, they'll tack it on in an extra charge.

USAA is awesome. They actually pay garages without hassling them, so you are more likely to actually get your auto work done promptly as well.

They have a ton of other benefits for trips and stuff too. Just login on your or your parent's account and go to member services or something. You can also save up to 25% on the bill. Really cheap cruises too, in case anyone wants to disappear with me for a bit. 😉

Nearly every place I was looking at had the 25 dollar fee. It is variable on location as well. I try to stay an extra day at each place I go to because I want to explore. 50 bucks here and there builds up real fast!

awesome! I am USAA member!! When you say login, you mean making reservations online? or what? Call avis and let them know I am a USAA member?

Go the USAA website and then login with your USAA ID and password. If you don't have one, then create one obviously. Once you are there, go to the "Products and Services" page. There is a link aptly titled "Rental Cars". Click on that bad boy. Once there, you get the choice of Avis, Budget, or Hertz. You just click on that link and it essentially enters the coupon code for you and takes you to the member page where you reserve your car.

I'm glad there are a few people besides me that this benefits!

Yea. I never thought I'd like an insurance company but I was recently in an accident and they have been awesome. The guy found my car in a parking garage, appraised damages and then drove the slip to me on the other end of campus. Then I got a call that the damages were more than appraised for and they were just notifying me because the company approved it immediately. Got another call from a woman saying she just wanted to tell me she was handling everything with the other person's insurance and that she'll handle all the payment stuff. Basically, all I had to do was drive it to the body shop and wave goodbye for 17 days.

They really are an awesome company. I love, love, love their deposit@home for checking/savings. I never have to worry about finding a stamp!

Plus, every time I've ever called they have been crazy nice on the phone. They once forgot to ship me my new ATM card and to make up for it they overnighted me a new one for free. No wonder Forbes always ranks them #1 for customer service! 😍

Do what I did: get poor grades in undergrad and then do years of arduous GPA repair. You'll be over 25 when it's time to rent a car for interviews. Save yourself the extra fee or the hassle of signing up with USAA.
