This may seem like a really dumb question but I don't have anyone else to talk about it with right now.

Can I rent an apartment using student loan money? Because most of the places I've been calling around to check out want a monthly income. I won't be working at all in Dental School and plan on using student loans to cover everything. While my school offers student housing, which I will use if nothing else comes up, it's overpriced and underwhelming I can get a lot more for my money elsewhere.

Is it the type of student loans that makes a difference? I've never taken out loans for my undergraduate so all this is new to me.

I am unmarried and I don't have kids so I don't qualify for section eight housing.

Oh, yes! They don't want you working. You shouldn't. Are there common apartment that students tend to use? Certainly anything close is familiar with how students operate with loans vs. income. You could also try renting a room or something from upperclassmen or team up with a classmate. I don't know which school or city, but I don't imagine it being a huge hassle to make it happen.

Financial aid in terms of loans and grants count as income. This is even true for credit card companies. This was how I got my first credit card actually haha. Ask apartments near the school, they should be used to renting out to students.

You might need a cosigner if you dont have a good enough credit history though. If you're unable to find a cosigner for some reason, try to negotiate with them. Sometimes apartment complexes are willing to do a double deposit instead of a cosigner.

In the past, I have shown apartment managers my student loan package showing how much I qualify to receive when applying for a rental apartment. You can even offer to provide a lump-sum payment for like 6-months rent. This might even be more convenient for you, plus they know that they're getting paid.

My wife and I bought a house about 30 min from school after we got accepted. We now use student loans to pay the mortgage (just a little more than what others spend on rent).
