A good school, if a little on the smaller side. Strong focus on community health. Less focus on strictly empirical research (ala Harvard or Hopkins).

Hey thanx a lot for the prompt reply, i want to get into research later, am sure i will be doing a phd two years down the line. will doing a mph from drexel which doesnt focus much on research hamper my admission chances for phd later?

No. Get involved with whatever research is going on at Drexel when you're a student. Just keep in mind that a lot of the research that goes on are community intervention and practice research (this goes for all schools that have a greater focus on practice than strict etiologic research). As long as you demonstrate a strong understanding of research methods and research purpose, you can get into a PhD program. What PhD program you do will be dictated by what you get involved with during the MPH, however. So if there's no research you're interested in getting involved with at Drexel, it might not be a good fit for your future research aspirations.

Hello - I was just recently admitted to Drexel as well, and am now trying to decide where to go...

I am interested in focusing in community health and health education.. I don't know anyone who has gone there, or who knows much about the school, so I don't know if this is going to be the best choice for my future!

I'm a recent graduate of the Drexel MPH prog, so I'll try to answer you the best I can...

Drexel's MPH is fairly new, but there is still a lot of opportunity for research and ways to get into the PhD program, which Drexel also offers. I went into community health and prevention, so a lot of the research I did was community-based, but I still had to do my fair share of epi / biostats to prove the results. Friends have also done more science-based research with air quality samples, analyses on health data, and it's really wide-ranging. A lot of the sites you work at are flexible and are willing to help you develop a project you want, especially in your second year. I think Drexel gave me a lot of hands-on experience that kind of showed you the real world of JOBS/ careers with public health, which is really quite different from all the theory they shove down your throat first quarter.

Based on your interest, Drexel would be a good fit. Schools that fall into the "higher rankings" focus much more on theory and empirical research rather than practice and implementation.
