hey,

ok guys im kinda stuck here. My biochem lab instructor (ourschool offers biochem lab separate from the class and it is 2 credit hours) i spoke to my instructor on missing the lecture portion of the lab (lab discussions) due to interviews and he told me that his 2 credit lab is AS IMPORTANT as my dental school interviews, i already have a few interviews that will force me to miss the quiz's and possibly the midterm....i dont know if i can call the schools and reschedule....cuz i got the interviews before i began the course....and i surely didnt think he would be such an A hole about it. what do u guys recommend i do? i dont wanna drop cuz it will make me a part time student cuz ill be under 12 credit hours for the semester....and ill lose all my scholarship money.....wat do u guys recommend?

thanks

most schools have a policy for professors to accept excused absence in situations that include school-related activities. it's a no-brainer, you have to get yourself to that interview (if getting into dental school is more important at this time)...I'd try rescheduling first before making a gut decision...If that's not an option, you've got to make it work - you've got to be at that interview if you want to give yourself a chance this cycle.

way to go biochem professor! making life for a pre-dent harder than it should be...anyway, good luck! i hope things work out just fine.

talk to: course coordinator... if that doesn't work, assistant or associate dean... and if that doesn't work... the dean

tell that professor to go screw himself..

Your interviews are more important than his two credits class 😎

Go to the dean. As far as rescheduling, some schools seem to let you, while others don't.

sounds like this guy is a nut case. i would def go straight to the dean.

hey,

Well turns out y midterm is gonna be the day of my upenn interview....and i even showed him the letter i got for the interview and everything, he just wont budge. He still things his class is worth more then my future. thing is...i dont mind dropping with a W and explaining to schools wat happened....BUT if i drop with a W ill be under 12 credit hours for the semester and would have to pay ALOT OF MONEY BACK...def dont wanna do that....its like a lose lose situation .....only if this ***** would just do something for me...i went to the dept coordinator and he told me this "thats grossman(the professors actual name) for ya, guys got tenure, nothing i can do for u here" :boom:
one option i was considering was goin to the university president. i have a very close friend that works for her office and knows her very well. If i can get the message to her through him i feel, or at least i hope she does something for me. a friend of mine who is an ER doc told me that if i wanted to he would write a letter to him that i had a contagious form of bronchitis or something just a fake diagnoses to give me an excuse. Thing is if i miss the midterm which btw he wont allow me to take earler or later...i even offered him to make it as challenging as he wanted...just let me take the exma and not receive a zero...he just wont budge.....i dont understand how he has been here for ten years....i wonder how many students he screwed over.....

i would go straight to your friend who knows the pres. lol about the fake sickness. sorry, this really sucks for you.

WTF??? That professor sucks. The whole point of going to college is to prepare for your future! You should totally try to talk to the university president. You should make a big stink about this because your college should really try to help you with your education, not prevent you from furthering your education. Sorry about your situation. That is really messed up.

I would take it all the way to the top. That kind of garbage should not go unnoticed. Unfortunately I have experienced that a lot in academia--some of those professors would not survive in the real world without their little power trip and screwing their students over for some bizarre sense of gratification.

I had a similar situation. I had a death in the family and wanted to withdraw from a class to lighten my load (the reasons were funeral preparations, and overall grief). The teacher would not budge and refused to sign the little paper to allow me to withdraw after the date students could do it themselves. I had all my other teachers offering me their condolences and he just was a total jerk.

Well I stopped going to class, took the fail, waited a year, went to the head of the biology department with my plight, and she basically forced the professor to sign the paper (he didn't even remember my story). She got the registrar to change the F to a W. The moral of the story is, do not let him push you around--Dental school is your real goal in life not pleasing this prick!

I would see if you can reschedule. If you can then most problems are solved. If not, then the interview is definitely more important.

Go straight to his boss and make some noise. Most of the time they don't want more trouble and bureaucracy.
