Research and clinical career (psych NP)

I'm a psych NP with a master's but I'm strongly considering going back for a nursing phd as I realize I'd like to be in the research world. I'm wondering how many of you are able to combine research and clinical careers? I wouldn't want to fully give up seeing patients. thanks!

A lot of people combine research and practice, but very few do a 50/50 split on their effort. More often the combination looks like 80/20 (and increasingly that is generous). Choose where you want to focus most of your effort.

You might want to inquire on nursing boards, because a nursing PhD would probably have different career opportunities and lifestyles than clinical Psych PhDs.
