Research Assistant I salary

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UC Berkeley RA's get about 28-30k, UCSF 30-33k, Genentech 70k, Pfizer 65k, Stemcell Technologies 55k, Merck 70k

Slightly skewed though because if you have a science degree UCs (UCLA and UCSF at least from my experience) will give a position as a Research Associate, not assistant, which bumps your pay up ~5k/yr. Still not great though. I got a couple of interviews for Research Associate II jobs when I applied just out of undergrad too.

Research assistant at Washington University in St. Louis and im making 35,500 and I had to negotiate hard for it even though I have a MS.

Just some advice if you are looking for a position that pays a bit better, and allows for patient contact and depending on who you work for - more in depth research experience - try a Clinical Research Coordinator or Study Coordinator position. Spend some time studying or brushing up on regulatory requirements, GOP guidelines and your local IRB and VOILAH! there is your 40-50k+ RA position that includes some regulatory work.

This also may not be possible for everyone - but hey its worth a try - worked for me! 🙂

(Also - PM me if you are currently looking for an RA position in Boston that pays ~32k with full benefits and tuition reimbursement)

CRA I jobs at UPENN pay 30-32k depending on the lab (I interviewed for a few positions last year). Really hard to get those jobs cuz of the awesome perks (publications, recs, shadowing, etc). But at Penn they'll at least let you take 1 class (worth ~$5k) each semester for free!

@ LSU-NO, making 30K before taxes. It's good to live with the folks!
