I want to quit my research for credit position. I'm applying in the spring and already have more than enough research so it's diminishing returns. I'd better spend the time volunteering and it's just not my cup of tea.

The only thing holding me back is that I would technically have a W on my transcript if I drop it. Would it be a "real" W or a moot point if I explain it's just an ECs reorganization and not an actual class? 3.9 something GPA (one B in orgo) and no W's otherwise.

I also don't think this is a big deal, but I would like to know why you are withdrawing instead of just finishing the semester. Are you worried your research professor will fail you? That would be worth a story because it could affect an LOR...
I'm considering withdrawing because:
- I really don't enjoy the job
- I have an excess of research. I have 1k hours research and 5 posters already (from a previous lab and some short-term internships), but 475 clinical and 225 service hours. I plan to pretty much one-to-one replace the lab hours with service hours. I'm applying solo MD.
- I'm in over my head and something has to go, right now it's my hobbies and social life but I'd rather cut the lab and spend the time doing things that I enjoy
- I don't see myself learning much or getting research productivity out of a couple more months

I'm not planning to get a PI letter anyway, it's a long story but I'm not confident I could get a strong one. I don't know the PI very well and I have other experiences in mind that could better speak of my strengths.
