A PharmD is generally useless for research, you would need to go to graduate school (not "professional school") and get at least a masters, preferably a PhD
What kind of research? You could do research in academia with a PharmD. If you want to go into clinical research, then build the necessary skills to go into the pharmaceutical industry or other research institution. Like the previous poster said, you're better off going for a masters of PhD if research is really your passion.
You need to build up a respectable CV with pubs and stuff. I dont remember research being a big part of PharmD curriculum if at all. Schools like Rutgers will push students harder because of close ties with industry in the area but other than that...PhD is the way to go.
