Hello! I'm scoping out perio programs, and I have 2 questions for those of you who are current/former residents or who are in the know.
(1) I am looking for research-oriented residency programs. I realize the bulk of time is spent in the clinic, but I also know that some departments are more focused on serious research rather than a blow-off MS thesis project (although that depends on the indiv. resident, too). That said, are there any schools to avoid for this reason, or programs that you feel are particularly strong?
(2) My top 2 picks right now are Mayo in Rochester and UIC in Chicago. Anyone have experience with these programs? I'm really curious about the quality of training in the programs. I know UIC is in a growth phase, and the program at Mayo is so small, I haven't been able to find anyone, even in our perio dept. who has experience with a Mayo periodontist.
Thanks - any input is appreciated!
