Hello !

Will research oriented pre-meds have better chances at schools that are ranked high for research? Or will the schools that are ranked lower for research want research inclined students to add to the diversity?

Thanks!

Assuming the appropriate numbers (GPA/MCAT), research-oriented premedical students tend to have better success rates at higher ranked research-oriented medical programs. Clinically-oriented medical programs tend to favor those than have opted to focus on their community contribution and medical experiences. There are certainly many, many, many exceptions, but it is in the best interest of the schools that are research/academic-oriented to matriculate students who have interest in research/academics, and schools that are interested in producing clinicians to matriculate students who have interest in becoming a clinician.

I always find it interesting to go on mdapps and see applicants who applied to top 20 research schools but have done no research and wonder why they weren't accepted...Just a small observation.
