To whom it may concern:

I am looking for research volunteer position with the department of pathology. Anybody interested so far?🙂 I would appreciate any input from current practicing pathologist, fellows and residents!

Thank you!

Hello guys,
I would really, really appreciate if someone could speak up or send me a private message. I didn't match to pathology this year and look for an opportunities to strengthen my application and do something useful with my time until next match season. I look forwards to your input!!!
Your advise will be greatly appreciated!

You should contact your local pathology residency program and set up a meeting with someone to get some advice.

If you know of a pathologist who is willing to help you, you can shadow them. Learn grossing and sit at sign out.

If not then I would go to the best program in your area and ask if there is any research you can do (you likely will have to work for free unless you get lucky and find someone who is willing to pay you). You need to work with pathologists (well known, the better) who can speak on your behalf when you apply again as they can make calls for you. Hopefully, when you are doing research you can ask to sit at sign out with attendings or hang out at the surgical bench (what you really want to get exposure to). Having a well known respected pathologist call on your behalf is key.

If you haven't passed Step 3, get that out of the way with the time you have.

That is exactly where my trouble is - I don't have any connections and numerous attempts to establish were in vein. I started from emailing program directors and faculty at local programs, but no one answered. Then I began to mail real letters with my CV, followed by one short email note from one of 4 programs: "sorry, no opportunities available".
My next step was to contact a larger audience posting here, hoping some pathologist involved in a lot of research would be interested to get an extra pair hands for free.

Right now, I don't get to choose, I would be glad to work with anyone interested

That is underway.
I appreciate guys you engaged into discussion. If any of you is aware about opportunity I am looking for in your residency programs, please spread the word. Look forward to hear from you!!!

Thank you.
