I'm starting my Army Reserve obligation. I'm a 60W (Psychiatry) but there are no billets anywhere near my location.

My understanding is that I can go do 'admin drills' at most units? I've heard you can drill with recruiters but haven't heard much about what other options there are. Could I drill with an aviation unit to get some Flight Surgeon exposure? My main question is what sort of drills could I go do? Is this a common thing? For some MC officer to show up at some random unit trying to get some drill time???

Also understand I can work for VA and other feds under a "CTA" (clinical training agreement?) ...

Can anyone who is doing this elaborate some on what my options are ?

Thanks!

I'm Guard side so I can't help you much. Have you googled/heard about APMC? Might not be ideal if you're new to the Army, but seems fairly sweet if you're transitioning from Active (unclear from your post).

I'm 60W as well. One thing to note is that although you can go to the Flight Surgeon course, you will not be able to work as a Flight Surgeon. We are one of about five AOCs that can't be slotted into Flight Surgeon. You're still an asset as you can clear aviation folks with down slips due to psych issues (non-FS psychiatrists can not), but I'm not sure how much aviation there is on the Reserve side now.
