What's up, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I recently had a first-author publication accepted to (what I think is) a high-impact journal (for its field, it's the journal with the 4th highest impact factor - not sure if this matters). I sent this update 11-18 and received a pre-II rejection (along with a bunch of other applicants on the thread) from said school on 11-29.

I'm pretty doubtful that my update was reviewed - I think it strengthens my application significantly - would it be advisable to reply to the rejection email asking them to confirm if the update letter was read?

If there was 11 days between the update and being rejected I'd bet they saw it. You could send an email to verify I doubt it would hurt. Hope you get in somewhere!

I doubt that asking them to confirm that they read your update would have an effect on your outcome.
That said, you have nothing to lose.
This^^^. You absolutely have nothing to lose. Just don't expect much. Besides not having any obligation to read or take into consideration any update, it would be beyond unusual for them to admit a mistake, assuming one was made, and reverse a decision. Good luck!!

Do you really think that the Admission Dean is going to run out to his/her Admin screaming "We have to rescind that rejection!!!! This kid just published in Nature/Cell/Science!!!!

????????

The Admissions Committee has spoken.
