I'm about to take my first offer for a staff pharmacist position. Should I be asking about RCA's/non-competes? I've heard sometimes that contracts say you can't work for the "competition" for a specified period of time like 12 or 18 months after you quit. Has this ever been a problem for anyone?

Unless you are selling a store to a retail, the non-compete's generally only count while you are employed, once you leave you can do what you want. The 12-18 month thing after employment is for when people sell a store, they don't want you to open a store across the stree and steal back the customers they paid you for,.

Problem solved: move to California after and work right away for whoever you want, non-compete clauses are unenforceable here.

Isn’t California one of the hardest markets for us? At least any of the metro areas??

If you’re 5-10 year experienced + residency + BPS cert, you’re probably competitive (or some other equivalent combination of that).

But yeah I mean if you need to bide your time to wait out a non-compete, come here if you have to. I think there’s one other state that also voids non-competes, I’ll have to go look.

Washington DC, North Dakota, and Oklahoma are the other states that don’t honour non competes
