I know we've talked about this kinda thing before, but I'm just curious how much those of you working in retail are making. Does your company have a defined plan for how much your pay is increased each year of pharmacy school?

Right now I'm still making the same $10.50 an hour that I was making before I started pharmacy school (as a certified tech) and I've almost completed my P2 year.

P1 intern at retail chain: 14/hour and it will go up $1 each year

level 1 student, working in retail, make 15.75/hr, every year increase $1

1st year student at accelerated program. Started at CVS in central Massachusetts for $10/hr last fall. I'm supposed to get a dollar raise after completing 4 training classes and some CDs, which I did in January. Still waiting for that dollar. It also goes up $1 each year I advance in school, so I guess my final year I'll be making $14-$15/hr.

P3, making $19/hr. I started at 16 as a P1, $17 during P2, and $18 at the beginning of P3. They gave me a random pay raise w/o telling me it was going to happen about a month ago. Either the whole scale moved up, or they want to keep me around. I was offered $20/hr to do a flu shot rotation in October w/ the company I am currently at.

😕 Where do you guys live, in South Carolina I'm a P1 at Walgreens and only make $10/hr. and promised $1 raise per year. Am I being buffaloed (no offense my northern friends) or do y'all live in an area where the cost of living is that much higher?

I can see why you all are making so much in retail. You're on the West Coast🙂 I start off at $10 as an intern at CVS.

I think that's standard around here, unfortunately. Lower cost of living = lower wages. I make $14 as a P3, so you should get a little bit of a raise each year.

If you are a P1 and you work at Walgreens in Illinois you start at I believe $14.50. I believe that your hourly rate is adjusted by either $1 or $1.50/hr for each year following.

My first internship summer (2004) I made $9/hr at Eckerds. For 2005, I moved to Walgreens and made $14/hr. This summer, I'm on rotations so I can't work. I might squeeze in a few weekends here and there. I should go up to $15/hr.

$20/hr as a P3 working at Rite Aid in Salem, OR.

Time for me to make a resume 😀

Chicagoland area for Dominick's (a Safeway company)

1st yr: 13.50
2nd yr: 15.50
3rd yr: 17.50
4th yr: 19.50

Not bad. Regular techs start around $7...one I knew that had been there about 6 yrs was making 11.40

Do you know if you have to be under contract with them to work after you graduate?

Nope, no commitment to them after I graduate. They do have an option if you want to take a loan from them you have to commit a year post degree for each year of loan you take out. Lots of other companies do that too.

In Oregon, range from $15-$28 for P1's.

For P1's:

$28 (Kaiser) ...
Fred Meyer(Kroger) $20
Walgreens ~$15

Yes - I think this is pretty standard for CVS, from what I've been told. I'm actually sort of curious to see what they will do with me - I will be a 6 year veteran of the company when I change my status from tech to intern this fall. Currently I make $15/hour, so I'm sort of worried that I may not get another raise for 4 more years 😱

I'm currently a certified tech (in Illinois) making $9.25/hr and I'm going to be starting P1 in August and today they said I'll get $12.50/hr ("intern payrate")when I show them my acceptance letter. I thought you had to actually had to attend a semester of pharmacy school in order to be considered an "intern" at Walgreen's. I'm kind of confused seeing as how the intern currently working at my store also said they start at $14.50 and it goes up $1 a year.

Level P1- Making $13.00 Wal-mart Hampton VA

Finished P1, making $9.50 at Walgreens in Central Illinois. They say my pay will increase mid-summer. 🙁

starting my first intern job (inpatient) ... starting pay is:
$15.50/hr (weekdays) and $16.50 (weekends)

14/hour at Walgreens in NC- P3

12.75/hr as a walgreens intern in southern colorado

has anyone who worked for walgreens transfered to another state for pharmacy school? Can they decrease my wage? Right now I'm a senior tech and make $13. That would suck! 😱

I interned at CVS my first year and quit right after they pay the l;owest and cheat you by making you wait for your raise. They are chinsy bastards. Let me guess, you work the regsiter like a dog, not something an intern should be learning. I was paid 12.50 P2, 14 P3, and 16 currently. CVS is the lowest paying and the biggest bull****ters.

I started getting $22.52/hr after my P1 year. Insane huh?

Though, I sure needed that rate to pay for my insane monthly apartment rent. 😡

this summer i am interning at walgreens in texas and am making 14.50 an hour right now, and i will just be a P2 not bad i guess

Hey- Do you mind saying which state and for what company?

Wow, where do you live? I'm guessing California.

Nope, I'm actually in Oregon. I think Oregon has the highest paid interns within the US. Some places even offer $28/hr here. I'm actually working for an outpatient/retail hospital pharmacy.

Hey guys ,

I need some information about the internship. I'm starting pharmacy school this fall, so I have absolutely no idea how the internship thing goes.
So , please take some time and answer these questions for me :

1) How do I apply for Pharmacy Intern. Do P1's get intern license? Is retail internship the most accesible and easier to get after P1?

2) I 'm gonna go to school in PA , can I work in NJ or Delaware as an intern.

Thankyou all in advance

Hey, sorry if I'm kinda jumping in late in the conversation, but I just heard something about how Oregon doesn't have a sale tax, but your income tax is pretty heavy to compensate?? If you don't mind sharing, usually how much state/federal income tax percentage to your whole pay check is taken?? Is that why Oregon's pay rate is so high to offset the high income tax??

After Fed and state are done with you in Oregon I think they take away 35% or so. Those turds!

Do any of you guys know how much Wal-Mart pays as an intern (comparable to other companies)? I am in NorCal.

I've never worked for CVS but know plenty of people, pharmacists and interns, who have been screwed over by them. Make sure you get a contract in writing, because they generally don't like to do that and they'll screw you if given the chance... the contract in writing thing is a smart thing to do no matter who you work for though.

How have people been screwed over by CVS? I just got an offer to work for them as a summer intern (I'll be finishing P1 this May) and I'm trying to decide if I should also apply to other places like Walgreens?

Any thoughts? This will be my first time working in the pharmacy. 😀

This thread is ridiculous! I work in one of the most expensive areas for housing in the US. Comparatively, everyone here in BFE makes about as much if not more than me, and everyone in places about as pricey as mine are making a hell of a lot more than me...I bet my actual work:money made ratio is a lot better though.

Licenses are dependent on state. For example, NY technically doesn't let you become an intern until you're finished with your P1 year (IIRC), whereas NJ doesn't even require an intern license. And as far as I know, there is no reciprocity with licenses.

I started out p1 year at $17.75 with albertsons, moved to fred meyer later due to location and got $24, I have been with Kaiser, and they pay $34/hr for P3/p4 in oregon.

anyone know the rate for Massachusetts?

1PD- $13 Walmart
2PD- $14 walmart

I was told that was the national rate for all Walmart pharmacy interns in their internship program.

Kaiser pays $35/hr for P3, I get paid 19.75/hr at rehab hospital, $17/hr @ Walgreens, and I will be getting $25/hr at another hospital I work at starting in May. I'm P3 in WA

Darn! ...Should have applied to school in Oregon! 🙁

As far as reciprocity...or whatever it's called. The students who are out of state at my COP were told to get intern licenses from the state they are planning to practice in, and not Ky. They will do their rotations (which are almost exclusively in Ky) with that license and not a Ky license. If I haven't misunderstood.

If you want to work in CA - you get a CA license. No exceptions!

anyone know the rate for Massachusetts?

As a P1 CVS and Walgreens offered me 11 in the metro Boston area. I respectfully declined, since I didn't want to take the train to malden and walk half a mile just to get to work.

If you really want big money...go down the cape! Cape Cod Hospital pays like 18 an hour, essentially gives you free food and a hotel room, and is on the friggin cape! Course, you need a car, and it's a small community hospital so you'll have to do all kinds of work, but sounds like a good deal...

edit: I think CVS also has a cushy down-the-cape gig, but the one I hear the most about is CCH.
