Retake a class

Is it worth it to retake a science class that you got a C in? I've heard med school will average out the 1st and 2nd grade for cumulative GPA is that true? If you took classes at junior college in the summer, will those grades will be calculated as well?

Well, I think it is worth it to take the class over because it will show the admins committee that you can handle the course and you might get some more understanding out of it as well. I don't know about how schools calculate the grade, but I'm sure different schools will calculate the grade differently (but you can't lose either way...as long as you do better). As far as the junior college, I think those grades will be counted as part of your undergrad courses, so it will be calculated as part of your cumulative gpa (in the amcas application). Good luck! How med schools see retakes depends on your undergrad policy. My undergrad removed our 1st grade from our transcripts and put an "R." So on my amcas i just put the second grade and an R for the first one. I retook orgo II and calc II and got into 5 or 6 med schools a couple of years ago...

I got a 77 in Organic I last semester and retook it and got a 103% this semester. I am so so glad I retook it because now I am ready to fly into Organic II.

Oh, by the way...never try to go through two relationships while taking Organic...it makes you get a 77%.

AMCAS seemed to make it quite clear that they would calculate our GPA their way and you are suppose to enter the grade you recieved in both classes. Maybe you can get away with putting an R I don't know.

HELP!!! i messed up my undergrad pre-med classes (gpa 2.8). i want to go to some post-bac program to re-take those classes....do you guys know of any schools that allow that? (repeating already taken-premed courses???))

You know, the whole purpose of retaking a class is to correct your "errata." So people who got a D and retook the class are basically screwed. What was the point of retaking these classes anyway. I heard that some school delete the grade and you are left with only an "R". That's unfair to someone like me because I have to enter the D and will get screwed.

Well, why did you get the D in the first place? it's only fair when comparing your repeated grade to a person who did it right the first time....why should you not be penalized for a bad grade? I don't mean you persoanlly :wink: , just in general...why would the old grade be erased? It wouldn't make sense. Consider it lucky that both grades get averaged into your gpa. I heard in some schools, the second grade is not averaged in, it is just there on your transcript to show you are capable of doing the work. Now THAT sucks.

Well, I wasn't planning to retake a premed course. I did not do well in Pharmacology. As you know that it is a course in med school. Obviously I wasn't used to the material. I wonder if it is really worth it to retake it. Or should I just forget it?
