Hi guys. Just curious are the average stats for DO schools already taking retakes into consideration? In 2008 i had a few bad science grades. I finished up my degree in economics and this past year I have been retaking science classes at a cc that i did poorly in a few years back and have been getting all As.

Grades are as follows with the original and retake grade right after:
Gen Chem 1: C A
Gem Chem 2: B
Gen Bio 1: B
Gen Bio 2: C A
Ochem 1: C A
Ochem 2: D A
Physics 1: A
Physics 2: A
Phsyio: A
Anatomy: A
Genetics:A
Evolution:A

With retakes my gpa is as follows:
3.82 cumulative
3.80 science

Without retakes its:
3.45 cumulative
3.05 science

Will take my Mcat in september and planning to apply broadly end of december/ beginning of january.
What are my chances? Thank you guys and gals.

To my knowledge yes they use the retake grades to calculate their averages. The application cycle opens up at the beginning of June. The sooner you get your application in the better. If you get the equivalent of a 27+ on the new MCAT, you have a great shot at any DO schools (a couple DO you need closer to a 30; other users will mention them).

Have you shadowed a DO? Do you have any clinical experience, etc?

If you have a well rounded application you should get love from DO schools.

Everything that @Stlblues17 said is spot on.

I don't think you need to wait to apply. I would still complete the AACOMAS and submit the primary, most schools will hold your application until your MCAT score is in. Completing the AACOMAS later might be detrimental due to the variable processing period in which your app is in limbo and not in front of the reviewers eyes.

You're chances look solid. Hard to say without seeing a list of EC's. I suggest coming back when you have your MCAT score (or a practice score) and posting in the What Are My Chances sub forum located in the Pre-Allopathic forum.

Great thanks guys. What kind of ECs will be impressive? Will 100 hours of volunteer/ leadership and 200 hours of shadowing be sufficient?

At this point, you can no longer impress with shadowing/volunteering. You can only add to your application something necessary. Now, your GPA is impressive, especially the science portion (well done on the retakes!), but you don't have an MCAT score yet, and you don't have any volunteer experience(?) you NEED to get in the clinic for the reason that you have to know what you are getting into, not just to check the box that you've done it.

Good luck to you

You're planning on applying December/January? I would recommend waiting and applying June of next cycle. That's awful late and you might have some success with the newer DO schools but it's far too late for most.

Would applying this june without an mcat score be a good idea even though I will be taking the mcat in july/august?

If you took the MCAT in July and had everything already submitted that would be fine. But if you take it in Sept I wouldn't apply this cycle at all and would wait.
