I'm trying to decide which path to take to best spend my time this fall.

Choice 1) Retake Organic Chemistry 2 - Got a C first time taking it.

Choice 2) Retake PCAT in October - 84 the first time.

I guess the question is - what would the admission comittee like to see more - Me getting an AB or higher in ochem 2 or scoring in the mid 90's on the PCAT.

I have a 2.9 GPA with 160 college credits - so not much of a change is going to occur in my overall GPA.

Any thoughts or feedback appreciated.

your pcat scores seem fine but if you feel compelled to improve them, then i would say do both ochem2 and the pcat in the fall.

he's pcat is fine but his gpa doesn't help thats why he needs to either get like high 90s or improve/retake classes.

Your current PCAT score is decent but getting a higher one can only help your app. Retaking OChem isn't really going to change your GPA with the amount of credits you have taken. Though schools might like to see a higher grade. I vote for a PCAT retake, but I think you should contact the schools you are applying to and ask them. They can usually give you that info.

Go for choice 1) only if you recently taken Organic Chemistry 1 and done fairly well. Its quite difficult to perform well in Organic Chemistry 2 if you been removed from Organic chemistry for awhile. (The mechanism questions will be tough without having some solid O chem 1 background)

Go for choice 2) if you are absolutely confident you can score in the 90s.

My recommendation is to do one or the other but not both choices.

good luck🙂

Your PCAT score is right in the middle of the pack for accepted applicants while slightly average to above average for many schools. Your application would only get better if you get a 90+ score. An 87, for example, is an improvement but only a subtle one.

The same reasoning applies to that organic class you want to retake. You would probably need a B+ or better to really make a difference. A B helps but you haven't improved your application by much either.

So, your answer should be the choice that has a better chance of improving for the second time. My choice would probably be the PCAT given your good first score. A 90+ score would really help with that low GPA. Your application needs a standout aspect to compensate and the PCAT is the best opportunity for that.
