Hey guys,
I posted before once but I am always on here reading about the application cycle for the fall 09. I took the DATs a little while ago and I that really hard version that we all know about. I didn't do as well as I hoped, but not horrible either..everything was fine except for the math and pat scores so I was considering a retake.

My AADSAS has already been mailed to schools earlier this month (I submitted in early june) and I have been starting to get e-mails from the schools about paying the application fee.

The earliest I can take the DAT again is in the beginning of october. I wanted to get your opinions on this. Of course i know it helps to have everthing in early, which I will have done already with my first set of dat scores mailed by the end of this month..but if i chose to retake, how much will this hurt my chances for the fall 09? will i be completely out of pool for the first set of interviews?

Also, did anyone that took that really hard version find mistakes in the math section or seem as though that about 2 or 3 of the questions may not have had the answer that you thought it should..like there was a typo?

Thanks and sorry for the really long message!! Im just totally confused =(

if you really want the opinion on whether to re-take or not, giving your scores will be the best way of doing it. we can't tell you to re-take or not unless we know what kind of scores you got.

also, you'll still be considered for interview at dental schools with your first score but just make sure to indicate that you're taking your DAT again so they will know that your low (or whatever score you had) can be improved

18 ave, 19 sci

So it is possible to get an interview with the first set even though you are planning to retake in oct? would they hold off making a decision until they receive the scores? or do schools just hold your entire application until after they will receive the retake scores?

Retaking and getting a higher score can only improve your chances for this year's cycle. So if October is the earliest retake date, go for it. That is not too late considering people do retakes in the Spring to improve their situation.

They are standardized and scaled accordingly.

by hard version, i meant that frap/ethics one..everyone seems to be saying that version is hard...and i had that test.

Maybe the passage is more difficult to focus but it isn't graded any harder. In fact, it might be easier because more people have difficulties with the liberal arts- like passage so one could only have to get 7 of the 15 questions correct verses a science one where 10 of 15 questions might be needed to be at 17... If that makes sense, it's a standardized test- so if you had a harder version, you'd have to get less questions right to get the same score someone else did if they had an "easier" version.

As for a retake, some would want your GPA. there's a post somewhere on here stating if they wait for your new DAT score or not...
