Retake?

Hey joejoe22,

Generally speaking, medical schools and dental schools love to see improvement. It tells them that yes, you do mess up in the beginning, but you are a diligent pupil because you made up your grade.

You also have to consider the undergraduate program you are in and their minimum requirements to graduate with a bachelor's degree, as most if not all graduate schools list that as a prerequisite of their program.

So in short, if you feel you can do better the second time around, definately retake the class; otherwise your efforts are best spent focusing on your current coursework before going back and hitting the books for any class you might have done average.

Good luck with your studies and take care!

I agree with this post, but I wanted to add my thoughts. Another thing to consider is that this is the introductory biology course. Regardless of the grade you received, if you haven't learned the material it is going to hurt you later on as you will be required to take a LOT more biology. I got one C, in an organic chemistry class, and I decided to retake it. I got a B+ the second time. Not tremendous improvement, but I am sure that I would have failed my second semester O-chem class if I hadn't retaken the first one. In the end, it was beneficial for me to retake the class and learn the material so as to save myself a poorer grade down the road.

Thanks,

I appreciate the feedback. Based on what my grade is, right now i'm leaning towards retaking the class. A lot has been learned in this first semester and I know there is great room for improvement in Biology. I just wanted to make sure it would not look bad when applying to dental school to see a retake on the transcript. Just wanted to make sure that it is still possible to get accepted.
