I have a quick question regarding retakes. I know the new grade you get replaces the old grade in terms of GPA. I have a few classes that I want to retake for a better grade, however I'm afraid I won't have the time. I want to get my application in as early as possible for the '10-'11 cycle, but I'm still going to be finishing up my last year of undergrad and have those classes to take. Is there some way that I can take these classes over the summer and still have them count into my GPA after I submit primaries? Thanks in advance for any help!

On your AACOMAS application, you can say that you are retaking the classes and that they are currently in progress. You could submit your application as soon as it opens in May-June without those new grades being in. That way you will get your application verified quickly, and get the opportunity to start working on secondaries and sending your letters of rec in. Once you finish up those summer classes just send in a new transcript to AACOMAS and they will generate a new applicant profile for the schools you apply to with your updated GPA calculations.

Just wondering, I'm applying the next cycle too, when you say you're going to take these later does it delay your application if you have a lower gpa?

I don't understand the question, they don't discriminate based on GPA. High GPA and low GPA doesn't matter on timeline.

I have a question about retakes too, I'm also applying for the '10-'11 cycle, I took Calc at a community college over the summer which was 5 credit hrs, and then i retook it again at my university which was 4 credit hours, the calc that i took at my community college counted as an equivalent course to the one I took at my university,

so when I put this into AACOMAS will they still replace my grade even though the amt. of credit hours are different but my university considers it as an equivalent transfer course??? i'm realli worried because this makes my gpa go down considerably lower if it doenst get replaced!

You might want to email AACOMAS about that to make sure, but I believe it will not count as grade replacement. But I think I remember someone getting that approved or they asked about it and AACOMAS said yes it would still count as a retake even though the credits are less. Email AACOMAS. LOl

Are you asking if the med school might put your application on hold if you have a lower gpa and are waiting on new course grades to come in? Yes, that is certainly possible especially if the course you were taking was one of the school's prereqs or an upper level science course. Just make sure you apply as early as you can and get your secondaries and LORs in as soon as the school asks for them!

Yes that's what I meant, sorry that did sound confusing there. Thanks for the response! I'm applying next year but still have prereqs to complete which is why I asked (and I have a less than stellar gpa)...🙁
