Is the 7 gonna be a hangup at schools like PCOM, CCOM, DMU, LECOM, OUCOM?

PCOM's average was a 24. That's an 8 on each section. I'm sure people got 7's. http://www.pcom.edu/Admissions/adm_FAQs/Adm_FAQs.html

CCOM's was a 27, with no stated minimum.
http://www.midwestern.edu/ccom/

DMU's was 26.63, with no stated minimum.
http://dmu.edu/com/do/class_profile/index.cfm

LECOM's average was a 24. Again, 8 x 3.
http://www.lecom.edu/pros_degreereq.php

OUCOM says there are no minimums, but successful apps typically have 8's and above on each section. They make you sign a 5-year contract to practice in Ohio, after residency, though. Sure you want to do that?

I'm in need of another pre-med's advice. I recently got back my MCAT score 1st time 27M ( VR 11, B 8, PS 8). The writing score felt like a drop kick in the face. Just wondering if anyone here retook the exam and whether you think it's a good idea to schedule a retake for August.😎

I am not expert. But, from what I have read on here, there are tons of people with an M for their score. Submit your app and get your secondary apps done and go from there. Best of luck!

I'm aware of OUCOM's 5 year contract. However, if that would be the only place I am accepted I would deal with it. I'm a PA resident so its not a far move and in the grand scheme of things, 5 years isn't that long. It'd give me some alone time to "bank roll" before I get bombarded by the family. Thanks for digging all that info up. That's what I was expecting.

Quick question:

I will be shadowing a doctor in July. Should I include that into my application? If so, do you guys leave the experience description blank or do you guys describe based on what you think the experience will be like?

Definitely include it in your app. The only question is the description. I'd probably give it a proposed or generic description, so it won't look blank.

Chocolate Bear, my fellow Texan: good luck this cycle. Your profile looks rock solid.

you actually have to put some description...it wont let you leave it blank.

OK, I can't figure this one out: where in AACOMAS do I put certifications and licensure? I'm certified (and recertified a few times) ACLS and PALS, NCCPA, and licensed as a PA in Oregon and SC. There's no obvious place to put any of these things but they're important. My ECs are getting rather crowded.
AAMC gives you a place to list certification and licensure, but not AACOMAS.
Also, I put my one publication in Awards but that seemed stupid and there was not enough room to list the whole citation.
Help!
Thanks, you guys are great....
Lisa

I think it's overkill to put the PA license and NCCPA certification down. Your application will show you graduated from PA school. It will have your PA employment experience.
I'm having the same issues with the ACLS, etc. I think I might put it in the extracurricular section. It doesn't seem to fit under awards.

You're probably right. But it's a heck of a lot more work to become certified/maintain NCCPA certification and state licensure than it is to do ACLS, PALS every 2 years for a few hours every 2 years........?????

Very impressive by the way. I am assuming because you have PALS and ACLS you were in critical care or EM as a PA? Those acceptances should be pouring in anytime now for you

I'm sure this has been asked somewhere on this thread but I can't find it...
I changed my classes around slightly for this summer and next spring semester, does this mean I have to send in an entirely new transcript to AACOMAS?

Don't I wish. 🙂
Actually ACLS was required before we went out on rotations (which was, um, 9 years ago) and I just got in the habit of maintaining it. PALS was required by my FP group. I worked outpatient FP/urgent care for several years and only in the past 2 years did any EM. I think I would like critical care but never have done it. Interviewed for a hospitalist job a few years ago but didn't seem to have enough mentorship so I declined.
As far as your question, I dunno...if you ended up not taking courses you listed as "planned/in progress" you may have to give someone a heads up. OTOH I'm sure people change their plans all the time and just work it out with the individual schools.

how do we enter in classes for next semester, that we are signed up to take but have no grade to put in yet... should the grade be an incomplete cause the class wasnt taken yet?

Ditto on that!!!

All my EC's are getting ridiculously long. There is a lot of crap to put down after 15+ years. I'm trying not to become redundant in order to keep whomever is reading my app interested.

I can't figure out if this class counts as science or non-science:

EST (Engineering Science & Technology) 330: Natural Disasters - A study of the physical causes of natural disasters; their societal impacts in developed and developing nations; the use of engineering, architecture, and regional planning to reduce vulnerability and loss; and the institutional mechanisms, both domestic and international, for providing cross-cultural technology transfer and post-disaster assistance. Case studies of disasters in a number of countries are included.

Thats the official description of the class. Think it can be squeezed into science (maybe under meteorology)?

Science. It even has science in the category description. I imagine it would be considered Natural/Physical Sciences by the AMCAS description, but of course AACOMAS is just "science". Sounds like a cool class.

Okay thanks. Yeah it wasn't bad, pretty interesting. I got an A without having to even sit for the final 😀

So for the Personal Statement, I assume people didn't make nice little paragraphs with spaces because that uses up characters, thus is your PS one long paragraph? Do you space after a period or not to conserve characters? Thanks

Put spaces after periods, if you are that in need of additional characters consider cutting out some portions of your personal statement because the last thing a committee wants to read is a personal statement that seems like a huge run on sentence (granted there are periods, but without spacing it will look like you don't know how to write a paper).

Okay but did you intend for each paragraph, because that would waste alot of character in my opinion too..

thanks

Bear: One thing that everyone should keep in mind is that these schools may or may not update this data on their website very often. I know that the 24 that PCOM lists as their average was from several years ago, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of the others were a little behind too.

I'm not entirely sure why they don't keep their sites up-to-date with this info. However, the numbers have gone up pretty significantly, across the board, in the past few years. Or so I've been led to believe.

did u guys enter in the classes youll be taking in next semester, and if so, how

sent in the app and have what might be a big problem!!!
I found today (app sent in friday) that there were misspellings in the coursework section of the app. anyone know what the consequences of this are. anyway to change this at this point or do I have to hope they dont catch it🙁

I put a space between each paragraph, but when viewing the application summary my personal statement appears as one big paragraph. Did the spacing remain in yours?

Edit: Whoops, appears that you mean to actually put a space between the paragraphs and just not start a new line. Thanks, that fixed my problem.

That's how they all look in the summary. However, in the prompt, I'd recommend using normal paragraph layout, with five spaces to indent.

True, true. For the person with the 7, my main point is that it would be hard to know if the 7 will be detrimental, unless the school posts or is known to have a section minimum that is 8 or higher. I have no reason to believe this to be the case for the schools mentioned.

Did people put their work and extracurricular activities in chronological or reverse chronological order? I put mine in reverse chronological order (Current job first) and when viewing the application summary, my most current job is listed at the bottom which is not what I want because my most recent stuff is my most impressive so that is what I want adcoms to see first. Anyone know how it should be entered?

I did the same and it seemed when I looked at the printout it looked like it was in reverse chronological order...perhaps I didn't pay close enough attention. I really don't want to input all that data again though. Ugh.

whats going on with AACOMAS????
i cant change anything on my application right now?!
all i can do is look at my application without making changes.
anybody else having this problem right now???

I'm locked out too. This is weird. Maybe it's because they'll be verifying our courses using our transcripts? Anyway, I hope it's just temporary (for the night or something). I was hoping to finish it up and send it in tonight/tomorrow...😕

I can't either!!! Maybe it's just down at the moment?😕

AACOMAS hasn't been allowing modifications for at least a few hours tonight. Anyone know whats going on?

I seem to have the same problem tonight. So weird....

Hello,

I am planning to retake a chem course I did poorly in undergrad. However, I will submit my AACOMAS application even before I begin the course.

Will I be able to re-submit my transcript to AACOMAS once I get my new grade?
Secondly, will AACOMAS recalculate my (hopefully better) gpa and then forward my new grades to each DO school for me? OR will I have to re-send my updated transcript to the schools myself?

Thanks so much for any helpful advice!

Can anyone tell me why AACOMAS is telling me that I've exceeded the character limit in my job descriptions. It says on their own screen than I've used 748 out of 750 characters, but they're telling me I've exceeded.

Same crap happened to me. Try cutting out a few more characters and it should work.

I would check with AACOMAS to see how you are supposed to add it into the AACOMAS application and check with DO school admission departments of the schools that you are interested in, because there may be an area to show it on a secondary application as well.

any remedy for already having submitted your app and noticing spelling mistakes afterwords?????

Yes, they can be fixed during/after verification. You need to contact AACOM, don't freak though this can be remedied prior to any school receiving it.

good news. i was able to fix my missspellings. CP you were right they unsubmitted my app, I made the corrections, and clicked submit again with no problems. I also asked for confirmation that the problems were fixed in a follow-up message and will be looking for that. The response took less then 6 hours (11am? 430response). Ill keep you posted on confirmation for the issue and overall verification for the app. Thanks again CP

When filling out the scholarships, awards, volunteering...etc how far back should you go? All the way back to high school or just things that u have done in the past one or two years?
