Hi,
I'm a sophomore I got a C in organic chemistry, so I want to retake the course but there is a problem.

I can only retake the course at my school, but I will not be here for this summer (because not only is it expensive to live here but it is also expensive to take this class over the summer here). I would rather go back home and take it at my state school for the sake of costs, but since I already have credit here, I can't get credit for it again.

I have two options: 1) Withdraw, don't get credit for it here and get a W on my transcript, take it again and hope it transfers or 2) Keep my grade, deal with my depressed GPA and still take it again at another school, and get no credit at my home school.

Both options seem pretty crappy to me. Insights on what I should do?

Doesn't your school have a transfer guide. if you take it somewhere else, you can get the credit there and adcoms will see that you took the effort to retake it. I also believe that the AAMC will average the GPA from all schools that you have attended.

You have a third option. Take your C, do better in the other pre-reqs, and if you are still concerned take some upper-level courses and get A's in those. A C in orgo won't kill your application, if your other grades are good and your overall GPA is high. For anyone who glances at the orgo grade and wonders whether you can handle the work based on that, your A's in Orgo II and in an upper-level science or three would kill those doubts.

Well, our school allows transfer credits. The problem is that I already took the course at my school so there's not point in getting credit twice for it (once at my school, once at another school). Then the same class would count twice for my GPA.

Will the AAMC accept if I took a course twice and got two different grades?

I am not entirely sure of how aamc calculates gpas. Try doing a little research. I once read on this board that the aamc calculates both courses.
