Hey guys, I have a quick question. How does retaking a class, that you got a B in, over again look to dental schools?

Basically, I have a pretty decent schedule next semester, but wanted to take Calculus II again because I enjoyed it when I took it last time. I am signed up for 15 credits right now, and taking this class will put me at 18. Any advice on whether I should do this or not?

Are you retaking it bc you think you can do better or is it purely for fun and you expect the same grade?

Seems like a waste of credits to me?

If you're doing something purely for fun, why not explore something you haven't done before, since college is the best time to do it? Art, history, music, physical education?

If you enjoyed Calc II and got a B... why not step it up into Calc III?

Really just seems like voluntarily repeating something when the initial grade was fine will be a big, boring waste of your own time.

Edit, to put it in terms of how it might look to D Schools:
In my opinion, having less you need to explain on your transcript is better. At best, they won't mind two of the same course on your transcript. At worst, it could raise questions about GPA padding, about why you would retake a course instead of delving further into the topic, and could be awkward to explain at interviews.

Well, I want to redo it so I can get an A and because I enjoy math, but it isn't my major, and I wanted to keep myself familiar with it.

WEll if you retake and get an A then it will likely help

If you find calculus fun (then you need to charge up your spaceship and leave this planet) then take Calc 3 and brush up your calc 2 by yourself. If you still find things you don't understand by yourself, then sit in on that lecture or approach the professor during office hours. Don't retake the whole class.

Word to the wise. We don't use any form of calculus in dental school, we actually go out of our way to remove it

I took Calc I and II more or less to just keep up on math. I'm all for fun classes, too. But move on. A "B" is more than acceptable. Give Calc III, Differential Equations, or a Computer Science class a go! Dental schools want to see that you can handle hard classes and plenty of them. Math is fun to you because it challenges you, right? So, as NewYorkBlork said, Step it up!
